Is there a character, role, celebrity etc. that you feel represents the "real" inner you and/or someone you wish you were like or feel like deep down is the "real" you that you can't/won't let out?
In terms of characters I tend to identify with movie characters or certain actors more than characters in books. When I think of "roles" I think of movie roles, but the term could also apply to characters' roles in books. I like this question because I think it helps me understand why I like certain actors more than others as much as I do. So when I watch Dustin Hoffman I will tend to identify with his character or role more so than if the character were being played by any number of other actors. I'm the same way with Anthony Hopkins and John Cusack.

The first movie I can remember identifying very strongly with was Hoffman's Benjamin Braddock in The Graduate. I was 15 the first time I saw the movie. I don't always identify as precisely with a Hoffman character, such as in Midnight Cowboy and lots of other roles. But there's something about Hoffman that connects with me (and with about a billion other fans).

I can't think of a character or role which I identify with but can't let out, by Hoffman or anyone else. I did identify strongly with Edgar Fremantle in Duma Key, however. I assume this due to my interest in painting and especially in Salvador Dali's work, whom sK chose as a focus in the book. Other than the aspect of the character being a painter I didn't particularly identify with him, though, except perhaps in that he had been injured in a way which changed the direction of his life. I won't go into detail about my personal identification with that aspect of the character.

At one time and for years Ron Howard and I looked identical. I was asked for his autograph once at a pub in Atlanta. I went to see Splash at a local theater and the young lady who I ended up sitting next to went onstage (I think on a dare from her friends) before the curtains went up (they still used curtains then) and announced to the packed house that she was there with her friend Ron Howard, the director of the movie.

I went skiing in Utah once and after a couple of days an attendant at the skylift said, "You're not Ron Howard, are you?", to which I admitted, "No." He then said, "You know it's all over the resort that Ron Howard is here."

The resemblance no longer exists. What he gave up in hair I gained in girth. Now, I seem to favor the late Philip Seymour Hoffman.

With Edie Brickell for me, I always thought of myself, deep down, as an "earthy" girl, something along the lines of hippie chick / bohemian. I'm not like that, just your average every day girl/woman etc. But, regarding MOVIE roles (like your relating to Dustin Hoffman) I would say mine would be MEG RYAN. Not because I look like her, but, the roles she plays, and, most particularly the role she played in Prelude To A Kiss. (Although, I am a lot like her character in When A Man Loves A Woman as well). I haven't read Duma Key, but, if I can ever make it thought CELL that will be my next read....

I don't really look like anyone, no one ever comes up and says "you look like....so and so". When I was younger, I was told I looked like Christie McNichol but I think it was more due to my hair style. I've never really wanted to look like anyone else, but, I have always wanted a certain hair styel! I would to have hair like this!
