The traffic is nowhere near what it is where you are, Shasta. Not even close. You should try to come up and stay for a week and see how things go from there.

I would LOVE to but I'm having a really hard time figuring out how to get out of work for two days! But I'm going to try to extend the plane ticket a couple of days so we can at least explore for three or four days!

The other drawback (but probably not for you, Shasta) for me was the bleeping 6 months of gray from November through April in between those warm and sunny days. That's one of the biggest reasons why I could never live there again. I can take the 6 months of winter I put up with here over that. S.A.D. kicked in big time for me.
Yes, I grew tired of the 'grey days' myself and it was also one of the reasons I moved to Spokane. I have all four seasons now and lots and lots of sun during three of them.

Pats (if she ever gets back on here) would be able to recommend some things to do also. You mentioned the arts/crafts/hippie-ish things and there is one section of Seattle that kind of caters to that aspect, I just can't think of it right now (brain fart).

There's always the 'family emergency' excuse- they don't need to know where you're going for real.
