Hi all!

So, as some of you know I have wanted to live in Portland, OR FOREVER. Well, I have been interviewing for a job in Seattle, which is not really where I want to live but the job is definitely one that I want so I'm open to it.

The problem is my husband is not. So I'm being flown up for an in-person interview on Thursday and I'm thinking of taking the hubby and showing him around.

But I know NOTHING about Seattle. Other than the market, where on earth should I take him that will make him want to move there?

HELP!

I think Seattle is considered one of the very best places in the country to live. At least that used to be the case. Here…

Really? It's much much much much more expensive than Portland, which has me concerned. I've only been once and I loved it but it was just for a quick work trip.

We have friends in Portland already, which is why we'd like to go there, but this really is a good job!

Shasta, the state of Washington (especially the Seattle area) has everything in it that you or your husband could possibly want to do! There's the coast, which has some really nice beach towns, there's the mountains that have all kinds of great things to do, depending on the time of year- hiking in the summer and skiing in the winter months. There is even a rain forest, yes, a rain forest on the western side of the state. there's tons of things to do in the city. There's tons of bookstores. There's tons of shopping to do downtown. There's tons of places to eat. There's tons of clubs for dancing or listening to music. There's lots of hiking trails or places to bike, mountain or street. Whatever it is you like to do, it's there! Yes, Seattle is a pretty expensive place to live- it's one of the reasons I moved to the Spokane area- and the traffic sucks. There's really nothing prettier than a sunny and warm day in Seattle tho! Seattle boasts some really nice museums and art galleries.

Really, the only drawbacks are the cost of living and the traffic, but Seattle has one of the best bus/light rail systems in the States!!!

The other drawback (but probably not for you, Shasta) for me was the bleeping 6 months of gray from November through April in between those warm and sunny days. That's one of the biggest reasons why I could never live there again. I can take the 6 months of winter I put up with here over that. S.A.D. kicked in big time for me.

I think I have S.A.D. right now and it's minus 18 here with two feet of snow

Other than your friends, what is it about Portland that attracts you there? It's been a very long time since I lived in Seattle, but I might be able to suggest some similar places to take him.

THANK YOU! I forgot you lived there.

The weather, first!

But we really like the old bungalow/craftsman houses, the huge amount of vegetarian and healthy food options, and the music and art scene.

We definitely don't like anything too "yuppy." We're pretty artsy/hippy. I LOVE Pike's Place Market in the morning before all of the tourists! So things like that.

And, for the most part, pretty mild winters. You may get one or two really cold storms come thru but mostly it's just cold rain in the winter months. Then onto the rainy spring time, but once summer hits it is just beautiful! Imagine smelling fresh, clean air, and being able to see for miles and miles without the haze of car exhaust.......Nothing like the sight of Mount Ranier with the sun shining on it!

Traffic and cost are why I want to get OUT of LA!!!!

Plus, me and Pats live here, so it's got to be GREAT, right????

YES!

Probably not a draw if he's also a vegan. ;)

He is.
