1. The Blood on Satans Claw.
2. Necromancy.
3. Earnest Scared Stupid.
4. John Dies at the End.
5. The Stuff.
6. Carrie (the new one).
7. Jennifers Body.
8. Creepshow 2.
9. Jurassic World.
Eh. If you liked the others you will this one. It's nothing along the wow factor of seeing the first though. Oops we made a raptor T Rex cross with Chameleon capability. Like any of us would last five minutes in a Jurassic age anyway. Still, there is something arresting in an atavistic way in seeing ourselves so removed from the top of the food chain.
10. Attack of the Crab Monsters.
One of the giant critter movies of the fifties but not on a par with Tarantula or Them. Great poster, wish I had it, but horrible movie. Not even the bizarre fact the crabs call to them at night in their missing friends voices helps it. The professor from Gilligans island gives his all in this one.
11. Terrorvision.
Oh Lord. I hadn't seen this one since it came out in eighty six. Imagine the eighties distilled to a sludge and a five pound bag of camp mixed in to harden into concrete. This is the house it built. An alien's pet is accidentally sent via squiggly lightening bolt to the huge dish antenna of a stereotypical eighties freak family where it consumes said family slowly. This is a weird one but funny weird. Definitely worth watching just for the nostalgia and over the top oddity of it. I don't mean a little spill over the top either.

12) Alien: Covenant
13) Pandorum
14) Blair Witch

15) The Black Room (2017) - Quite possibly the dodgiest film - in several senses - I've ever seen. Then again it starred Natasha Henstridge, who pretty much peaked with Species, and no word of a lie hers was the best performance in it. The rest were low-budget 80s B-movie bad and there were a couple of what you might call very explicit scenes, especially in what's supposed to be a mainstream movie, to the point where they wouldn't have been out of place on certain subscription channels (or, indeed, the shadier areas of the Internet). The running time was meant to be 95 minutes. It felt much, much longer than that and it's so bad overall that it even manages to fall miles short of the So Bad It's Good category. Avoid. 0.5/5
16) Dog Soldiers - Squaddies vs Werewolves. Some funny bits. It is what it is: not great, but fun. And it was like [insert your Best Movie Ever Made here] compared to The Black Room. Then again Plan 9 From Outer Space or Battlefield Earth would have been a vast improvement, too. I still feel like I need to disinfect my eyeballs and give parts of my brain a good scrub.

11. A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (FTV)
A black & white Iranian vampire neo-noir combined with Tarantino-esque touches and a spaghetti Western soundtrack. But really, despite looking and sounding great, it's not as good as my description makes it sound, or as good as it could have been. This year I seem to keep finding movies that critics love but are pretty paper thin efforts. I welcomed the novelty of the idea of an Iranian vampiress, and every shot is a perfect synthesis of sound an vision. But that's just not enough to get me through 100 minutes. The phrase "underdeveloped story" definitely comes to mind, there just isn't enough happening, scenes drag on way too long. While some movies try to pack too much into one movie, this one felt like a half-hour concept stretched very thinly. Check it out if story doesn't matter much to you, because it looks and sounds amazing, enough for me to give it more points than it probably deserves. In Farsi with subtitles.

3 out of 5 stars.

Hooray! We're back!

Yesterday, I watched movies 8 & 9. Patient 7 was a fun take on a short horror film collection (ala Creep Show) that takes place in an asylum but some parts moved too slowly to keep my interest. I was then inspired by Morgan to rewatch The Dark Half, which is always a good time. Mr. Blue has never read the book and couldn't remember having seen it (though it turned out that he had).

I think we're going to see Happy Death Day this weekend. I'm pretty excited to see how well the Groundhog Day platform works for horror.

Under your bed
413. Pappy Gator (1976). Combination horror/hicksploitation drive-in fare, featuring Strother Martin as the proprietor of a backwoods bed and breakfast famous for its all-you-can-eat eggs-n-brains buffet. Pappy's prettier patrons (such as a malnourished Karen Black) find themselves locked in his basement meat locker, and eventually on the chopping block. Scraps are thrown in the gator pit out back, wherein Martin eventually meets his ironic doom. Lots of country and western cameos, including Faron Young, Wayne 'the Brain' Hancock, and Skipper Davis. Davis later claimed to have lost two toes between 'star' gator Maxwell's snapping jaws.

I agree with you 100%. I watched this one last year, and I'd be less kind than you have been here: I thought it was one of the most boring 'horror' movies that I've ever seen. Definitely overpraised by reviewers.

Wholeheartedly agree! My friends and I saw this in the theater here in the US when it came out. Not only were we horror/vampire fans but we were also Isabelle Adjani fans. This movie is tops in conjuring up an atmosphere of dread and doom.
Did you see the movie in English or German? I started the English language version last night, but I'm thinking of going back and finding the German language version with subtitles. Some of the performances seemed strained, and I started wondering if that was because the actors were not acting in their native language. I'd rather see a good performance in a foreign language (I can read well enough, I reckon :) And I do know enough German that I might be able to follow the bare bones of the vocal story as well, though I know I'll miss subtleties) than a strained performance in English, if that makes sense.

1. The Blood on Satans Claw.
2. Necromancy.
3. Earnest Scared Stupid.
4. John Dies at the End.
5. The Stuff.
6. Carrie (the new one).
7. Jennifers Body.
8. Creepshow 2.
9. Jurassic World.
11. Terrorvision.
12. The Dark Secret of Harvest Home.
I haven't seen this one since it came on TV in the seventies. It was made for TV and came on at sweeps week if I recall correctly. It stars Bette Davis and features a very young Rosanna Arquette. It has a very slow build but captures your interest and never lets go. An idyllic town is accidentally discovered by a couple and their daughter just as they are sick of city living. The place is like an Amish sort but with customs all it's own and they decide to buy a house there. They stick to the "old ways". Very old. Things are hinted at throughout and there is tang of strangeness that keeps growing. The ending was all I recalled because I couldn't believe they would put that on network TV back then. When I saw it this time I thought the same thing. Very daring for that time. Hell, they won't do that on network TV now. It's no wonder it's a "dark secret". I've wondered if King got his idea for "Children of the Corn" from this one. Not that they are the same exactly. Got a "Wicker Man" creepy to it.

I'd love to watch Wicker Man again as part of this year's Halloween/October Horror Movie Marathon :adoration:

7 - i had to "finish" the series (there's still one more if you count New Nightmare, and 2 if you count Freddy Vs. Jason), so i went ahead and watched Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare. i remembered it was not what you would call quality film, but man oh man, it was so much worse than i remembered. like low quality fan fiction bad. like i hope that everyone who had anything to do with it feels bad. like, it's not so bad it's good, it's so bad it's BAD.

freddy suddenly has the power to affect the real world at will, because . . . reasons. suddenly instead of just killing kids, he erases them from existence entirely, because . . . reasons? suddenly, he has a daughter, because why the heck not, the only way to end this series is to fully derail the train, right? suddenly, freddy is less menacing and more like your corny uncle. and that's just the tip of a very large pile of poo. i won't describe the plot to you, because the stupidity of it might lead to mental scarring.

i can picture some form of hollywood meeting. something along the lines of "we've already made 5 of these things, we should probably wrap it up" "well how should we kill the guy? we've done him in all kinds of ways and he always comes back" . . . in wanders a drunken hobo who just so happens to have seen at least one Nightmare on Elm Street movie. he's been writing down his drunken hallucinations. he reads them aloud to the executives. "by god i think we've got it! let's line up a director! someone desparate!" and hollywood magic was made.

1. A Nightmare on Elm Street
2. A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge
3. It (2017)
4. A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors
5. A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master
