Interesting - I know out by where Alexandra M lives they have a lot of apple orchards. Maybe she knows something about it?
Wow - I need to log off soon. It's almost supper time!
I've never heard of anything like this. I do know when fruit is ready to pick there are 100's out picking for 12-15 hours a day and in 3 days they are done. As far as I know the ones on the ground are used for apple butter and cider and some sold as seconds to the public for applesauce. There are a few outlet stores in Kelowna, three I think, where fruit is stored and they have a retail area open year round. They sell everything imaginable that is made with fruit from jam to compotes, sundae toppings, etc. and some terrific seasonable vegetables. Never see many tourists there though, mostly locals. They don't seem to advertise these places.
They sell fresh baking and breads too.
