Interesting - I know out by where Alexandra M lives they have a lot of apple orchards. Maybe she knows something about it?

Wow - I need to log off soon. It's almost supper time!

I've never heard of anything like this. I do know when fruit is ready to pick there are 100's out picking for 12-15 hours a day and in 3 days they are done. As far as I know the ones on the ground are used for apple butter and cider and some sold as seconds to the public for applesauce. There are a few outlet stores in Kelowna, three I think, where fruit is stored and they have a retail area open year round. They sell everything imaginable that is made with fruit from jam to compotes, sundae toppings, etc. and some terrific seasonable vegetables. Never see many tourists there though, mostly locals. They don't seem to advertise these places.
They sell fresh baking and breads too.

Although it is tertiary to the main plot, in The Cider House Rules John Irving gives many fascinating details about a working and operating apple orchard. When I was in Maine a few summers ago it was on my list to visit Tabby's orchard but time got away from me.

I took yesterday off from work. I had to build the part of the retaining wall that houses the filter. I also tried to mow the lawn, but only got half-way done. My youngest daughter and her friend, our part-time kid, were getting on my nerves in the pool while I was working. So I gave them $20 and told them to go have lunch up the road at the drive in… and eat there, not bring it home. After they returned I asked them what they had to eat. My daughter’s friend said Amish Eggs Benedict. I asked her what that was. She said basically Eggs Benedict made with scrapple & bacon over hash browns. Yummmm…. Scrapple. Looks like I have to give it a try.

All the rain has caused havoc here. River rescue from two counties search last evening for 145 whitewater rafters from NY reported missing on a section of river that normally is gentle, but nasty right now. Luckily all are supposedly accounted for now and safe. I had a heck of a time getting home last night at 11pm. They had the main road blocked off and I had to go all over the place to find my way home. I saw a picture this morning of why the road was closed. I dunno, I think I could have made it with the big ole Jeep... It sure would have been fun trying. :)

Thanks… I’ve mellowed in my old age when it comes to water. But I would have liked the challenge of trying to get over the mud slide. In my younger and foolish days I used to whitewater canoe on that river I noted, only farther up north that had some good rapids and dangerous rocks. Even bent the frame on the canoe smashing into some boulders, once, which sent us out of the canoe and onto the rocks. The sound a body makes hitting boulders is something you don’t forget. I also used to water-ski and liked to challenge myself skiing in one foot of water next to the banks… luckily I never fell doing that. Probably the most foolish thing I did was windsurfing on a lake in a thunderstorm. Not the smartest thing to do holding a lightning rod in your hand on a lake in a storm. :)

With age, comes wisdom and hopefully less injuries!

Working. Getting aggravated by a co-worker. More stupid economics homework. Forecast for the weekend? More stupid economics homework. Have I mentioned I hate economics homework?

I feel very bad for you swiftdog2.0 . Economics puts a person who is studying/doing homework into this trance like state (called boredom). The eyes
are fixated,if they are open at all. A little drool can form around the corners of your mouth. Don't even get me started about the incoherent muttering
and then there is the head shaking ... Economics should come with a warning ... turn and run, don't look back, just run . ;)

Hated macro and micro economics in college, also. Probably had most to do with a prof who thought he was Professor Kingsfield reincarnated.
