Hubby and dog were OK. He had a place for them to shelter along with giant pillows to place over their heads. Kiddo was in gym at the time, so she did not have her cell phone and she was very worried about us. They had to get under the tables each time circulation was spotted - twice. They had buckets with kitty litter in them and told the kids they could take that into the hall if they needed to pee!:facepalm_smiley: No one did!

The watch for my office was lifted about 5:05, but the storms were just training right over the same area (ie: my neighborhood) so I couldn't leave for home.
I am glad all of you are well, especially "kiddo"...

Isn't it kind of weird that when I was young they had us get under desks when practicing for a nuclear attack???

What the heck are those desks made of?

Thanks, Deej! The kidding helps. Stress levels were high!
I have worked with and around children almost my entire adult life. For me whenever a stressful situation comes about some form of humor, or poor attempt at often by me, is often looked as a welcome chance to well, breathe for a minute.

I have found it sometimes works with so-called "adults" as well.

That's how I deal with stress -- I go to the humor.

I was talking to a lady that's a few years older than me and she said when she was a kid (around 1960), her family had a family meeting to decide whether to buy a swimming pool or a fallout shelter. :) They got the pool.

I'm looking at the track for Florence when it exits the US and it looks to be pointed towards Ireland. Ireland got tropical storm Helene yesterday and they had a tropical storm earlier this summer. How weird is it for Ireland get multiple tropical storms in a summer? I'm not sure how often Ireland gets tropical storms but 3 (if Florence gets there) seems a little odd.

We very rarely get tropical storms so it is very odd. This year has been different, heavy snowfall and heat waves (Not good for our pasty skin!)

We got the first Watch alert just before 3:45. Also an email from the county and daughter's school that they were sheltering in place and pick ups were not allowed until the watch was lifted. I work downtown about 10 miles from my house and 8 from the school. At around 4:05, we also got a Watch alert. I work in a 9 story building with mostly glass floor to ceiling windows. At 4:11, we were told to move to an interior room. That pretty much means the copier rooms, bathrooms or stair wells. About 10 of us chose the women's room. One person had a local station's facebook live feed on and we hunkered around that. Keep mentioning that there was a cell right around my house and around my daughter's school. I was pretty freaked out for a while......

I remember those drills in Canada too. Also remember being a realist even then. I was more the sit in a chair, put your
head between your legs and kiss your a$$ goodbye.
