That's great news on Evan. Even if he wants to get into welding the work study program in business jobs would help him if he ever wants to someday own his own company.Congrats! Good to read about kids reaching goals!
Our Evan was recommended into a work study program for his senior year next year. But he doesn't want to do it!! Because he wants to weld like his dad (which is A-OK with us) and the program places the kids in business type jobs. I said, so what? It is afternoons out of school and you get paid, and they will work around your actual job. And it looks good on college applications, job resumes.
He won't do it. No interest whatsoever.
Tried to tell him that! He is being stubborn though. So I am going to push for college credit classes when he registers for his senior classes. They offer concurrent enrollment, so he can get a jump on the basics, at least. That's great news on Evan. Approach Evan with a thought-- better to do something now, for which he sees no great value in his future, than to regret it later in life.Tried to tell him that! He is being stubborn though. My youngest was just accepted into a prestigious university in Washington, DC… known for politics, law and journalism (almost 20,000 apply for only 1,700 spots). And to top it off she was accepted into their Politics, Policy and Law Scholars Program. Scholars Program? It wasn’t very long ago when her mother and I believed we’d need to tell her a career in food service wouldn’t be all that bad. Kids can sometimes completely surprise you. The kid might actually end up becoming a supreme court justice or US Senator... who'd of thunk it?
And, no, we didn’t buy her way into the school.
Thanks, GNT.
Great job! Tell her she might also get her name in the newspaper.Alison just called me to tell me she got an invitation letter for Junior Honor Society.
She said, But I don't know what that is. I said, it means you are a smart kid and the school is recognizing you for that. It is a good thing!
She said but the meeting is at 7:20 so you will have to drive me. I said, I am 100% able to do that.
Proud of her!!
