I was on the King Kon forum and I noticed that people were discussing the reasons why the board is coming to an end. I believe that Marsha said, or Marsha confirmed, that it was because not enough people were on the actual forum, creating accounts, that most people sign up and usually stop posting after a few posts, and that there are only a few regulars. I found this interesting, because I nearly did the same thing, I think what stopped me was finding the Ka-tet Cantina and other things like that, you know, the community. I think a problem is that most new accounts will post a topic, or a new forum and get not much response from it and are discouraged. Or maybe its just simply that there are other forums. I just found this interesting. Not saying that this would be a solution, because I know the board is ending regardless, but would there have been a possibility of it continuing if there was more traction? Thanks.

So over in the UK Steve has been getting some attention, which he hasn't really gotten mainstream traction over here in a while, just in terms of media. The media hasn't been kind to Steve to say the least, they keep bashing him for comments he made about the most recent Oscars, of which I believe he is a voter in. And he said something similar to that writing categories would be based solely on the writing and nothing else, a sound enough statement for me, but apparently the UK media disagreed. Some of the stuff they have been saying about Steve is complete ridiculousness, claiming that his comments were offensive, how? Writing awards should be based on writing? Who would have thunk it. But anyway, I just thought it was interesting. I thought it would be cool for Steve to call out these idiots but then I realised that its even better for him to just ignore it, not give any traction to the nonsense. This will give you an idea about some of the nonsense they are saying about Steve.

we don't fly that thing around here.
have no need or use for it,
we got the TEXAS flag.
we're doing just fine here, just concern yourself with scotland's independence. :)
I am more than happy with Scottish Independence, hahahaha. As for Texas, and being a student of history, the Texas flag weirdly enough was used as the official flag for the Confederate States, even outwith Texas, which is interesting. The flag most associated with the "rebel flag" was actually the confederates battle flag, and was not used in any real official way. I believe the rebel flag is banned in the USA, which wasn't even actually the official confederate flag, hahahah. But the confederate flag shouldn't be a taboo flag, its part of history, and the last thing that should be censored is history. They were talking about banning the lion rampant in Scotland because it was "offensive to English people!" Ridiculous. History is history, it shouldn't be dictated by anyone who should know or learn what.

No, this is not the reason why the Board is being shuttered. It's being shuttered because I am retiring at the end of June and there will not be someone replacing my position. It was, however, part of the reason why we reduced the hours from the former 24/7 that the Board was open to only being open when I am on duty and the evenings of those same days. I felt it was unfair to the volunteer moderators to be asking them to put in more time than I was, particularly on the weekends when they should be able to enjoy their free time.

It would be nice if they would actually read ALL of his tweets about this and put them in context. These were his follow up tweets:

"The most important thing we can do as artists and creative people is make sure everyone has the same fair shot, regardless of sex, color, or orientation. Right now such people are badly under-represented, and not only in the arts."

"You can't win awards if you're shut out of the game."

Your expecting reason from The Guardian Marsha? :) Hahahahaha. They wouldn't know reason if he was sitting in their front room, hahahah. The media over here want any excuse to bash someone, its actually really disturbing. I bet the writer of that article hasn't bothered to find any other interviews with Steve which explains it, but than again, that would be journalism, something we haven't had in a while.

You should use a more reputable source like the Daily Mail...:biggrin-new:
