Those drugs have been out for decades.

What white flag? What are you going on about? Nothing will stop it... NOTHING! Selective social distancing make sense early on until a cure, or something that works out of what is already out there, is utilized. At some point all this shutdown stuff will need to end or the economy will collapse… and we’re soon approaching it. A stand must me made. I think the states that recommend social distancing should be utilized, work from home if you can, and encourage companies that need to stay open do what they can is the best tactic.
Gotta agree with my boy here, the only real "cure" for the Coronavirus is actually a cure. And I'm not hopeful about that happenning anytime soon.

In the meantime, more people need to recognize this is not a hoax or something to be taken lightly and if they voluntarily step up to do the right things to keep this from spreading, there's less likelihood they will be forced to do so. We're not at a cure yet but it's imperative to stop the spread until we have one and a vaccine that will prevent infection.

I have started to watch seasons of the old show Criminal Minds. Sometimes the episodes are really dark, not at all like CSI or NCIS or something similar. They all had some humor sprinkled in but here we wallow in the darkest abysses of a human mind without ever letting go. Had to do something to keep me from climbing the walls. Also rereading some old favourites. Some books never die, have started a little tour of classic crime novels including books by Christie, Sayers, John Dickson Carr, Ellery Queen, Michael Gilbert, Josephine Tey, Philip MacDonald, Margery Allingham and Ross and John D. Macdonald. Luckily i have practically everything by Christie, Sayers and Carr and a good selection of the rest. Then i have some unread books from newer authors too to put in where it feels like it.

Sorry to hear that, Sunny. I understand caution but do these governors realize so many people won't have businesses to come back to after it is all over as they'll be out of business by these long-term draconian measures? What... People aren't smart enough to wear gloves and masks and use hand sanatizer if they work?

You could try applying at one of the two big national home improvement centers, temporarily, until you're back open for business again. They're open and in desperate need of staff right now... especially seasonal staff.
We only have the one with the big blue roof here......but the thought has crossed my mind.

I am concerned that when it's all over that many clients won't be coming back for whatever reason. Some will decide that they actually like their hair gray, and stop getting coloring services. Others could decide that a six dollar hair cut is fine for them, and a few may even decide they can do it themselves.

I know the governor doesn't realize many of is are self employed, because he keeps saying that he's making it easier for those affected to file for unemployment. I'm choosing to believe he doesn't realize we don't have unemployment benefits, because if he does realize it, he just doesn't care.

North Carolina's governor made an executive order yesterday closing all hair salons for a minimum of 30 days. The order takes effect at 5:00 p.m. tomorrow (Wednesday). While I understand the need to be cautious, I'm not sure what I'm going to do for money. As a self employed person, I do not qualify for unemployment. Trying to look for the bright spot, but it's becoming difficult not to become depressed.
Sorry to here this. Thinking of you. You are in my heart.

that's when you get on the phone and call his office (you'll get an answering machine) and tell him this. I am self employed and single. What am I supposed to do? What is your plan for people who fall in my group, who don't have unemployment benefits?

By the way, how is your boyfriend doing where he's at?

Plus, there is the chance (or probability) of the virus mutating into something worse before we know how to treat it.

Thanks Lin :love_heart: I hope y'all will remain healthy and safe too.

The salon owner has graciously told us that we won't be charged the weekly booth rent during the time we're closed. That will help a lot. I can call Nissan and ask for an extension on the car loan. Rumor has it that NC is two clicks away from issuing a shelter in place order. I'm off to the grocery store this afternoon to stock up on junk food and snacks. I'll get caught up on all my shows and Netflix documentaries. Who knows, maybe I'll cut up all the jeans I've ripped the butt out of and make my first attempt at sewing a quilt

Agree with D's post below. Calls. Letters.
Woman will not settle for the $6 hair cut. You may end up with new clienttell too. A new hair color ad will arrve, and you are the best at hair coloring. Stock up now, shelves empty fast. Just stay well and safe. We can do this.

and the more people in her position who contact the governor, maybe he'll realize that there is a segment of his constituents who need to be helped too. These are unusual times and something might be in place for workers in her position, or he will revisit the issue to make sure they are taken care of too.
