This has been in the works for several years, but it seems to be picking up speed:

Samuel L. Jackson Reunites With John Cusack for Another Stephen King Adaptation

According to a press release, Jackson "will play Tom McCourt, an engineer and former soldier who escapes from Boston along with Cusack’s character, Clay Riddell, after a mysterious pulse, transmitted by cell phones, spreads like a virus through the human population."

The film will be directed by Tod "Kip" Williams (Paranormal Activity 2).

I love, Love, LOVE this book, and admire the hell out of both Cusack and Jackson... but I totally can't see Jackson as McCourt. Why is the character now 'a former soldier'? *sideeye* I'm feeling a bit grumbly about all that, TBH. Looks like they're aiming for another silly 'explosions movie', and that makes me sad.

Seems to me, the book had enough explosions.

Does any one have any info on the ending planned? I loved the story and really glad to see Samuel & John reignite the 1408 bond, however, if the ending is like the book I will have to give it a massive miss after crying the last time I read Cell and the truly horrific, brutal ending it had. You would put a rabbid animal to peace better than that IMHO xx
