    The Ka-Tet Cantina 3

Back to work tomorrow. I took last week off to attend our daughter's graduation from college (Linfield College. McMinnville, Oregon). Our son took ten days leave and for a few days the family was back together. Oh and I finally decided it was time. So I read The Gunslinger during that trip and...

    Quora question regarding Stephen King.

So the question asked on Quora is a simple one. "What makes Stephen King a good writer?" Numerous answers. A few snotty answers that were not helpful to the person who posted the question. I tried to be more helpful. Stephen King is a very capable pulp fiction writer. Now that isn’t a bad...

    The Shining Opera

Mark Campbell sent the libretto to SK during a Thanksgiving break. He was prepared for multiple re-writes. Instead (according to Slate) Mr. King's approval came back in twenty-four hours (more or less) which caught him completely by surprise.

So, what did you all do during the break?

I basically took over a Stephen King Wiki that seems to have been abandoned a couple of years ago and have been busy adding pages and fixing up some pretty bad pages. It's kept me busy. Oh and I have a real job as well. User:Checkman111 | Stephen King Wiki | Fandom powered by Wikia

    The Shining Opera

An exert from Wikipedia about the opera. I hadn't heard about a thing about it until a few weeks ago when I was just surfing the net and came across a reference to it. The Shining is an American opera in two acts and an epilogue, with music by composer Paul Moravec and a libretto by Mark...

    The Shining Opera

So did anyone see the opera last year in Minnesota? Just curious. I'm not an opera fan but this one I would like to see. Very curious.

    Steve McQueen in "Bullitt"

It's a great car. Here in my town there is a pharmacist who has a 1968 Ford Mustang fastback. He's gone to a lot of effort and spent no small amount of money to get that car to look like the one from the movie.

The Satan Bug (1965). Possible inspiration for The Stand?

You You're right he does. I have read it, but it's been awhile. Another television movie that I think might have had some influence on him is Where Have All The People Gone? (1974) A made for television movie in which the bulk of the Human race is killed off by a freak sun-spot. Starred Peter...

    What Are You Reading?

Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen. I've been a fan of Springsteen since I was a junior in high school. Approximately thirty-two years ago.

The Satan Bug (1965). Possible inspiration for The Stand?

One of my favorite Cold War techno-thrillers. Love all those square jawed WASPS spouting slightly clunky speeches while looking great in tailored suits. Directed by John Sturges whose work I've always enjoyed (Bad Day at Black Rock, The Great Escape, The Magnificent Seven, The Eagle Has Landed...

    Idaho's Winter 2017.

We had the same thing happen here. Everybody buys dairy products and fresh beef. In other words perishables. If the power goes out they'll have to stick everything outside on the snow. Funny.

It is dark. Actually I'm surprised that ABC agreed to pay for it and broadcast it.

    storm of the century

I've got to watch this tonight. Yesterday we were slammed with a large snowstorm and more is expected this weekend. If ever there was an appropriate time to watch this mini-series it's now.

    Revisit

Colm Feore is a very good actor. I first noticed him in "Night Falls On Manhattan". There is a great scene where he tells off his boss, the obnoxious NYC D.A. (a man who plays his New York Jewish background to the full tilt for political purposes) who is always giving him a hard time about...
