2013 Vs 1976 Comparison

Oh and I just remembered some more scenes taken from the 76 version not included in the novel. The scene where Desjardin and Chris's confrontation on the field. (In the novel Chris just skipped detention) and also the scene where Desjardin goes up to Carrie after she's been invited to the prom and befriends her and tells her how pretty she can be. Most scenes taken from the original. All in all I don't think the remake was poor but I wish they had done their own film in regards to the novel as opposed to copying the 76 version. I'm sure there are a few others here who would agree with me.

I haven't seen the re-make, but I by coincidence I did watch the original again on Net flicks last week. I actually saw the original in '76 at the theater and at the time it as a pretty solid movie compared to some of the other stuff coming out (like Billy Jack and BTB&C )

Watching it again last week I was taken by how it is a such a snapshot of the 70's culture. Still good, still a stellar performance by Sissy Spaceck.

I like the origional better. I met Sissy Spacek when she was in town making a movie and they needed a person to fix a few problems with their sound stuff. I was asked to do it. And when I turned up there she was.... Lovely lady .. We got talking about CARRIE and she says that movie still gives her shivers and SHE IS IN IT!! Nice Lady though.

I love both of the Carrie movies. I love the original in all it glory and I love the update with all the modern takes. I would honestly truly would love to see a Carrie that is actually like the books! With the Police interviews and all that jazz!

To me, the original was much more terrifying. Sissy Spacek was perfect for the role. Actually seemed as she knew nothing about the outside world. The new one, she wasn't terrifying enough for me. Plus, Piper Laurie was the perfect "Psycho - Bible thumping mom". Julianne Moore is great actress, but had too much compassion as a mom in the remake. Sue snell's character, way better in the original. I do believe Chris Hargensen was way better in the remake. It was awesome how she got what was coming to her!

I like the remake. The girl was too damned pretty though. I can suspend just about anything these days, so disbelief about that aspect was not a problem.

Was she making "Coal Miner's Daughter"? I took my Mom to see that movie and she just loved it! (she had not seen a movie in years at that point).

Neesy, I she sure was. I loved that movie too. I went to see it with my Aunt Helen and my cousins Dannielle and Sarah-Jay. Do you know that All the Ryman Theater (Opry) scenes were shot inbetween real live performances during the movies concert scenes in "Coal Miner's Daughter" and acts like poor old Moe Bandy had to wait to they finished the takes. Thankfully Moe's a nice guy and didn't mind so much.I actually got roped into doing extra sound work on the movie and saw quite a bit shot . And met a few of the actors/actresses. All of whom were quite nice, except Tommy Lee Jones who was a arrogant *&^&&. I didnt know this to years later when I resaw the movie, but Im in it... When Sissy Spacek walks up the footpath towards "Patsy Cline's" Husband's Car in the Movie you can see a lady with long Auburn hair in flares leaning up against the shop door way ... Mostly all you can see is my flares and old platform boots (lol).... I miss those flares and boots they were so comfortable. *Im a hippy at heart*.

Sissy Spacek and Beverley De Angelo (Patsy Cline) were really good people when they were in town for the movie both aparently spent quite a bit of time talking and hanging out with the locals at the Music Store Bar across from the Opry. And the wall in the Music Store Bar still has most of the casts autographs on it... Its the stars wall. Mostly its covered in various musicians autographs but they are their too.

That is a great story - you must have see so much of the behind the scenes stuff in your job! What amazes me is how much Loretta Lynn ended up looking just like Sissy Spacek in the movie. I know it should be the other way around and I never thought they resembled one another much until after that movie came out. It is rather weird actually, almost as if she took on Spacek's features or something bizarre like that.

I am glad Spacek won the Oscar for best actress for that film as well (I had to go Google it to be sure)

Recently I watched the 2013 remake for the first time, and I must admit, it was good! Special Effects were great, most of the acting was good, and they added things to update this SK Milestone!
As for the '76 original, I saw part of it on TV immediately after I finished watching the 2013 one (IT'S A SIGN!!!), and prefer the remake. What are your thoughts?

I think the remake is closer to the book. I don't know if that makes it better.

First I saw the remake (I like Chloe Moretz) and then the original and I prefer the remake... Even if it's not the same epic, I think that it repects the book more than the original... But for both I'm disappointed because Carrie doesn't destroy all the "city", village... And I hate the end...

I'm not a huge fan of the remake of Carrie for a number of reasons even though there are certain aspects i enjoy. One of these are the central performances by Julianne Moore and Chloe Grace Moretz who i thought portrayed the naivety of Carrie really well. My main problem with the remake is it an essentially pointless film- their apparent attempt to modernize the film was essentially made up of the use of mobile phones in the opening shower scene, and that was basically it. The CG blood at the end of the film was horrible when compared to the physicality which is achieved from the use of actual blood. Probably the most disappointing aspect of the film in that regard is that the director of this film made "Boys Don't Cry" which is one of the most visceral and shocking films i have ever seen; her version of "Carrie" is however little more than a film which is aimed at the same people who flocked to the "Friday the 13th" and "Nightmare on elm street" remakes.

I loved remake. As much as I absolutely LOVE '76 movie I have to say 2013 beats it. I saw it in theatres and was blown away. I liked how Carrie used her powers much more. Sissy Spacek was perfect as Carrie, but Chloe brought her own interpretation which I liked.

I haven't seen the 2013 remake, but the 1976 version is truly one of my favorites - I think it would be hard to beat! I did rent the 2002 version with a friend one evening - it was her pick. After it was over, I looked at her and said, "Okay, this pick is your fault!"

I liked 2002. It had a good ending and it was SUPPOSED to lead to TV show, but didn't end up happening. I really want a Carrie TV show.

I like both versions - they both have their good and not so good points. If I had to pick one I'd probably say the remake - just because it picks into Carries character a bit more than the original.... but I don't think they could quite recreate the ultimate 'creepiness' of the characters in the original....

C'mon. DePalma, fa God's sake. Chloe Grace Tourets is a cute lil dumplin;Sissy Spaced-out was THE creepiest chick on earth, scared the willies outta me--still does, kinda. Might be a personal childhood thing with me, though, I dunno.

But when I think 'creepy chicks from the seventies', I think SISSY SPACEK.

Just saw Sissy Space-ICK on an old SNL, circa 1977 or thereabouts, and she wasn't creepy at all. Quite the contrary--grrr, Muskie like! She twirled a baton like nobody's business, and held her own with Belushi.

But she'll always be Carrie to me. That look is frakin iconic--pigs blood, tiara, cold, spaced-out killers eyes--as recognizable as Coca Cola and Mickey Mouse. They can re-make this one a million times, but in the centuries to come, it will always be Sissy they see.
