Forgive me, I haven't read the entire thread - sometimes if I read too much on the computer I get a headache - but I just want to mention the other day I watched Urban Legend, the one with Robert Englund. Nothing profound, but it was just a fun film. I had seen it when it came out, and it was one of those post-Scream films that really captured the essence of that time. There was of course the earlier part of the thread that focused on Scream and its prologue, and yes, I agree, it is possible to count the prologue as a separate work in and of itself in this thread. The Barrymore section is really a great short film in its own right, and sets a solid, scary tone. Scream is an important part of horror-film history in that it catalyzed a whole new way of presenting plot-oriented pieces, with slick cinematography backed by stock characters spouting witty dialogue that served as a time capsule for the generation in which it was released. Legend was basically a Scream in a different coat, and for that I appreciated it then and now. I watched it by chance on that Pluto ad-supported-video-on-demand service. Another film that came later that is also a favorite and that may be appropriate for the season: Cry Wolf, if you remember it.
But I also wanted to mention that I wasn't aware of the Two-Sentence project. I definitely will check that out. It's exactly the type of thing I like: something totally driven by concept. As I get older, I tend to favor concept/plot over character. Guess it's a time-management thing.
One last thing: also watched recently the first three tales in Tales of Halloween. The rest of the movie is very - very - hit or miss. I think the whole ten-parts-or-more anthology genre has about run its course for the moment, but those first three tales are really good, especially the second one, about a kid named Billy raising Hell..
And you can bet I will watch the great Trick 'r Treat.......and I will try to get to the rest of the thread later, thanks...some great posts here...
