Stephen doesn't personally respond to questions posted here. If I'm understanding your question, my guess is that with all the ideas he currently has but hasn't had time to write, unless he gets an idea for one that is so compelling he has to put those aside it's not likely to happen. This is an answer only Stephen King can answer!!!!!!!!!

Seems to me, he did that with Lord Of The Rings. He created The Black Tower novels....which were much better.
...the tale was merely a launch pad...I just listened to the first audio book The Gunslinger and loved it! The Hawk Gambit was brilliance~! I can't wait to listen to the rest. Is it true they crammed all those books into that one movie?

Structurally and thematically horror and fairytales are very close. It can be boiled down to the basic fairytale premise of a child-eating monster bested by the children on which it preys. Much like the witch in Hansel & Gretel.
I wrote a fairytale back in the day, where the old witch was Hansel and Gretel's mother driven mad by being tortured as a witch, in the end the kids go back home and end up eating their father and stepmother --nice twist.
