My favorite part of this book was when he said he wishes Wayne LaPierre and friends would have to see the results of gun violence.
When I'm doing my work, which involves treating multiple gunshot wounds (gsw's) on a weekly basis, I really DO wish all the people perpetuating the 'more guns' theory and taking cavalier attitudes about the whole thing could have their faces shoved down into the grisly scenes I see all the time because I really don't think they'd last more than 5 seconds much less all night on Tuesday when all we SAW was one gsw after another and several people died from it, in one case being a pregnant woman whose baby was still alive when we brought her in dead but the baby was hit twice by the gunshots. The woman was dead on the scene but they were able to save the baby long enough to take it from the mother. However, I don't know if the baby lived through the operation it needed. I haven't called to find out, because I haven't been able to think of my work since I left on Tuesday. When we came back to the same hospital later with another call, the husband of the woman who died was there, breaking down over what he was hearing about his wife, who was killed in the crossfire of a drive-by shooting that had nothing to do with her.
I'm not back on until tomorrow. I just hope there are medical emergencies or true accidents to offset all the crime-related gunshot calls we get. Otherwise I don't believe I'll be able to mentally handle another night like Tuesday.
I just have absolutely zero sympathy or understanding for Wayne LaPierre and his band of merry thugs at this point.

Update: The baby didn't make it and the commercial I saw shortly after finding this out, with Wayne LaPierre signing his name to the idea that "gun control activists have the blood of small children on their hands" ostensibly bc of the 'good guys with guns stopping bad guys with guns' idea being SO effective did nothing to endear me to anything that jerk ever says from now until eternity.
I now believe he truly IS propaganda savvy and a "gun pimp," as Mr. King said in the essay.
