As many of you know, I’ve been dropping hints for a while now about my impending retirement. Although I won’t be fully retired next year, I will be cutting down the number of days I’ll be working and the Message Board will be following those same days. Beginning in January, I will only be working Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and those are the days the Board will be open. The volunteer moderators will continue to assist with the Board after my regular hours on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.

In addition to the official Stephen King Facebook page, below is a partial list of fan-run sites with discussion groups that may be of interest to anyone who wants to have another place to interact with Stephen King fans for the times when the SKMB is closed. We are not endorsing any of these but simply providing them as resources. Don't hesitate to share others you may be aware of.

Marsha,
I liked your post, but "don't like it" at the same time. I do understand your much deserved retirement and hope that you enjoy it as much as possible. That being said, for many of us, this is our home away from home. You have shaped this community into the one of the best, most caring, safest message boards that I have seen in all of my exploring of the internet. While I do participate in at least one of the sites you mentioned, I would be very sad to see this community itself just disappear. As you plan your retirement, has there been any discussion of another office staff member taking on some of the board moderating responsibilities? Or should we start bracing ourselves for StephenKing.com and the SKMB to be lost and closed to us when you finally hang up your keyboard?
Either way, just knowing what to plan for will help. And I would like to take this opportunity to thank you once again for all you have done for the SKMB and me, personally. You are a treasure and will be deeply missed.

It has been discussed but there isn't another staff member who would be able to take over for me or any plans to hire someone new for the job. It isn't just me who is winding things down. ;) Final retirement won't be until 2020 so I don't want to make an announcement now that it will be a permanent shuttering of the message board as a lot could happen between now and then but I also don't want to mislead anyone that that isn't a distinct possibility. Perhaps this is a time to remember to not put off until later to enjoy the good things we have right now as they may not be there later. It's been a great run and I hope everyone will make the most of whatever time we have left and solidify the relationships we've made. This is an announcement I'd planned to make later but if there is anyone you want to continue the relationship with off the Board, make sure you get their contact info as it won't be available if/when the Board does eventually get shuttered.

It's been an honor and a privilege to be helming the Board for all these years and I have no doubt I will feel a void in my life once I'm no longer here.

Right back 'atya!

Marsha,

I had to let the reality sink in more before I could post. Had to see it in black and white posting print. You do deserve this semi retirement and eventual ( Everything Is Eventual) full retirement. You are the centerpoint of this mb. The leader, the heart, the guide, "the mother" to the Ka Tet. As stated, this is home, more so sometimes that our real homes. We are safe here. Steve may have provided this wonderful place, but it was you,our MsMod, that added the spices and guidance.

I've watched you grow. Yes grow in your participation. From almost silence, to "stay on topic", to delete finger, to what you are today-- one of many.

Ok, the tears are coming, old lady here. Been with this special place since almost day one.

Acceptance-- a word we shall learn. I'll take three day a week with great joy. I'll embrace it.

Just my opinion, there never will be nor can there be another MsMod. I accept this new schedule. Home and family three days a week is awesome ( a word SK feels is overused) .

I say Thankee MsMod for all you do for us.

Good for you!

Now that I have been retired for almost one year (it will be a year on the 19th of this month) I can understand the lure of retirement. You've worked a long time and deserve a break.

Thanks for doing this gradually - it helps to make the transition much easier for us all.

Thank you so much for all of this (my eyes are tearing up here) but you and all of you need to give yourself more credit. I didn't do this alone and it wouldn't be the community it is without your participation. Each and every one of you (yes, even you DiO'Bolic ;)) have made it what it is. The ones who weren't used to this type of interaction and bonding with other members left in a matter of time. We are a family who has its ups and downs and "eccentric" personalities but when the chips are down, we've banded together to support each other. When it's been necessary to rein things in, you've (for the most part) understood why that's been necessary in order to keep this a safe place. That's how it started and will be until the very last day.

I am having a hard time with my words. I am happy for you Marsha. You have worked hard and taken care of all of us and you deserve this happy time. It is hard news to handle, though.

Thank you for all you have done for us. This is the best place in the world. We are Ka-Tet. Whether it is every day, 3 days a week, even if there comes a day the SKMB is no more...we are Ka-Tet.

Dateline 2021… Marsha who?

j/k. You will be greatly missed but will remain in the hearts of many... Even those of us who only have a mere remnant of a heart left. :)

Not sure why I am not all choked up about this (and no I am not heartless) - I went away to make some soup then came back to see this post and some of the comments.

I think I just embrace change more easily than most people. Perhaps it will hit me later - the thought of no SKMB! OMG

Andy will be happy at least!

Don't think those Facebook groups are gonna cut it for me.
