If you get a chance, look up a video on YouTube that shows the line waiting for King's book signing at South Portland (I think it was). To some extent, it was a bit ridiculous, because I'm assuming he can't sign for everyone; some of the people in the later sections probably should have just left. Although, I do have to say, it's understandable, since if you live in the area, it's exciting, and you just want to stay until you absolutely know it's over. I am terrible at estimating crowds, but I want to say the line had to be composed of well over 500 individuals.

I was in that line. Posted the vid in another thread. We got there at 3:30am and were probably around 80-100 people back. They were issuing 400 tickets with another 100 non guaranteed, meaning if he decides to stay after the 400 they will get in but if not, they're pretty much outta luck. The big chunk of crowd started showing up between 4-5 and some people didn't arrive until 7 or later. Whether or not everyone got tickets I don't know. I'd be interested in what the total turn out was because that line was wrapped around the building. But really, if you show up one to two hours to get in line for a Stephen King book signing how good do you think your chances really are? I'd say slim to none and it's hard to feel sorry for them when you've been waiting for 5 or 6 hours or camped out like some people did.
