King was great tonight in DC. I've seen him a few times and this was the best. I got one signed copy from three books. So that was an added bonus.
Yes he was great!! I had a nice front row seat after waiting five hours. I also had four books, but no luck with getting a signed one. Just wasn't in the cards for me last night. I have been to a regular signing and now a speaking event, and I have to say, knowing you are getting a signed book is cool but nothing can top the kind of experience last night was. Absolutely amazing.

Did he by chance mention that he and Straub were going to be writing Talisman 3 next year? It's posted on Lilja's Library that he said something to that effect.

Had answered that elsewhere but no, it's not true. I'd mentioned to Steve that having the photo of the two of them was causing speculation they were going to be writing the third book and he just chuckled and said that would be nice but he's got other things on his plate to take care of first.

Well, from what I heard him say last night was, that it was for sure a trilogy and that he spoke with Peter about it and that he thinks that they will get started on that next year. He sounded pretty confident that this was happening, much to the crowds pleasure.

Rain, cold and even a little snow in old South Portland this morning. Killing some time before the event. No easy task. I had forgotten that the 911 hijackers had stayed here and eaten at pizza Hut on the night before the attacks. Creepy.

Mr. King was so kind and attentive to his fans in Austin, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I only wish I could have been a bit more coherent and perhaps been able to express my appreciation for his work and how much it has meant to me over the years, but I'm sure he gets that so often. I just hope he realizes how much his fans truly appreciate his making himself accessible to us in this way. I know he doesn't have to, but it means the world to us.

Don't feel bad. The first time I met him, I was so awkward and I didn't want him to have to be "on," so I just shook his hand and told him it was nice to meet him and walked through the door he held open for me. If it would have been a public event, I would have said more. I just didn't want to be "that" fan who's all over him on private time.

I feel I've been suffering from post-meeting-Stephen-King-depression, but reading here how people have met him more than once gives me a new goal to perhaps speak with him again. It must be so odd to have so many people adore you, I can't even imagine what it is like. I only know that I've read and reread so many of his books, I feel as if he is a close personal friend. Of course logically I know that's not true, but that irrational part of me still insists that it is so.

He does and even after all these years, he is still genuinely overwhelmed at times that he gets the response and turnout that he does. It's not a put-on when he shows his surprise at events. :smile2:

Amen, sister. My heart insists that we had to have sat down for a beer and a long chat at SOME time, because he sure knows me :)

Nor would it be a put-on expression of surprise on my face if he showed up at my doorstep, Marsha. hint-hint

My 11 year old daughter was first in line for the Austin signing. When they let us head up stairs, Mr. King was waiting for us at the door to shake our hands before getting started. Even though they told us he wouldn't, he personalized her book. I think it is awesome that he still takes the time to have these events, and give back to the fans!

Oh, that's so awesome! He seemed particularly attentive to the kids, which I found so endearing. He's such an amazing man. And I completely admit a bit of transference because he reminds me (in looks) of my late father so much. That would probably seem odd and uncomfortable to him, but it just adds to why I adore him. Geesh, I'm gushing here. But where else could I do that but this site?

Gush away! We're all pretty much enamored by the Man. I am so thankful for sharing this time on this plane of existence so that I (we) can enjoy his works. Long Live The KING!
