I was pretty disappointed because the paint I'm using is supposed to be permanent on fabric. But I think I was jumping the gun again and washing them too soon. So, for the second try, the mutant baby that held up better, I waited for the paint to dry thoroughly, and then baked the piece in the dryer. It held up much better, but still faded more than I'd like.

So I picked up the fabric markers. I'm disappointed again, though, because half of them are dried out. Even ones I hadn't used yet.

I want to try Derwent Inktense watercolor pencils. They're recomended highly for painting quilts, the colors are vibrant, and they're supposed to be REALLY permanent.

Problem is, they're expensive. I'll probably bite the bullet, though, and invest.

I've heard of those but never tried them. Love the intensity of the colors.

Wow - is that original art? - that is a pretty picture - well done!
I used a photo I had taken and with a light box traced the outlines onto fabric. Next I added a fabric stabilizer underneath and used my sewing machine to go over the traced lines (the black lines you see are thread) and then filled in the rest with the colored pencils.

And then there's this idea:

This is the "Wee Pals" baby quilt (designed by by Cori Dantini).

It can be bought as a kit for upwards of 30 bucks from assorted sources on the web. Included are the middle panel, that's already printed, and all the fabrics needed for the whole project.

Or the middle panel can be bought by itself for as little as 8 bucks depending on where you get it.

That makes me think that maybe I can paint my images on the harder surfaces that I'm used to, scan high resolution images and print them on fabric to use in my quilts. I'm not giving up on fabric painting, though. I'm having fun with it and I enjoy broadening my horizons.

But that got me thinking. If my own panels are recieved well, maybe I can sell 'em to other quilters.
:fox:

Food for thought.

I really envy you crafters who can work with fabric. I tried to find a picture of how horrible an effort from me would look but even the ones that were tagged as horrible, terrible and poorly made looked loads better than anything I would attempt. So I don't. I sit back and admire the stuff you folks do. :upside:

I’m sitting right there with you!

Will be going to the PEN gala in May and wanted a wrap to go with my LBD. Have thought about trying nuno felting for a while now so this was my excuse to make a nuno felt wrap as I didn't want to spend a lot for something I may not use that much. I still plan to sew a decorative edge all around and then trim the excess felt. It's usually left as is with the raw edge but I thought it wouldn't be fancy enough for this type of event. Here are pics of the process and the almost finished piece. It started with a piece of silk chiffon for the base and looks almost furry with the wool roving before it's felted. :smile2:

This is a ship made by a seaman my father sailed with who gave it or sold it to my father. I'm not sure if it is a 'brig' or a 'schooner' ship, from Maine. I don't know if the seaman who made it was from Maine, but it was on an American ship that my father sailed on and that the guy made it. It is in a old 'Rum bottle'.

Looks like a full-rigged brig. Chances are pretty good it has some connection to Maine going by the name of the ship since Portland is the largest city in Maine and is a seaport.

I think the guy who made it might have come from Maine. I believe the ship my father sailed on with that guy who made it sailed from New York to somewhere in South America and back again, a cargo vessel.

Months ago I entered some photos in a contest to have them picked for a local coffee table type book of photography. Just thought of it a few minutes ago and looked it up to see who won. I did! So to copy Doc Creed format about his quiz on SK books yesterday. Which do you think should have won, in order of numbers. (I think they picked the worst one, and wondered what you all thought). Thanks
