We only have the one with the big blue roof here......but the thought has crossed my mind.

I am concerned that when it's all over that many clients won't be coming back for whatever reason. Some will decide that they actually like their hair gray, and stop getting coloring services. Others could decide that a six dollar hair cut is fine for them, and a few may even decide they can do it themselves.

I know the governor doesn't realize many of is are self employed, because he keeps saying that he's making it easier for those affected to file for unemployment. I'm choosing to believe he doesn't realize we don't have unemployment benefits, because if he does realize it, he just doesn't care.

(((Sunny))) This is so hard on the self-employed. Do you have folks who schedule ahead? I always do because I'll forget and then 9 weeks out I'm ashamed to go anywhere with my roots showing and scraggly looking hair and I can't get in for a few weeks. My next apt is for April 2nd. I was thinking of mailing my stylist a check anyway - and be her first apt when she opens back up. Maybe others will follow suit. I should text her and see if she's not too shy to send mass text to her existing apts like me and just let them know the struggles small businesses are facing. Don't be shy about that. I bet you'll get a good response.

We have 1 confirmed case in my county as of Friday. Not hospitalized, recovering at home, she did an anonymous interview this morning.

Scott is still working, and so is Evan. Although Evan has had his hours cut. They are open to drive thru only. I am still concerned about being (possibly) exposed every time they come home from work. But grateful they are still working. Most restaurants (not fast food) are offering curb side pickup or delivery but other than the mines, grocery stores and gas stations, we are pretty much shut down. I have only left my house to take Evan to/from work.

School district had a survey up for families this morning about your student(s), if you have internet in your home and whether you had devices you could access the internet with. I have a feeling my kids will not be going back to the school buildings at all. They will be finishing from home, I think.

And Ali is officially pulled from the DC trip. I called and cancelled it yesterday. I felt awful because the lady I spoke to sounded like she was holding back tears. She said they were overwhelmed with cancellations. Hate that Ali is going to miss the opportunity. But it is just not the time to have a kid clear across the country from us, if the trip does even happen.

Sorry to hear this but you made the right decision

Staying home is the best thing right now.

Better close to home or Ali. Safety shield for all working and those who guard the homefront.

North Carolina's governor made an executive order yesterday closing all hair salons for a minimum of 30 days. The order takes effect at 5:00 p.m. tomorrow (Wednesday). While I understand the need to be cautious, I'm not sure what I'm going to do for money. As a self employed person, I do not qualify for unemployment. Trying to look for the bright spot, but it's becoming difficult not to become depressed.
.....I'll help if you need it Sis, you know that.....

Thanks Lin :love_heart: I hope y'all will remain healthy and safe too.

The salon owner has graciously told us that we won't be charged the weekly booth rent during the time we're closed. That will help a lot. I can call Nissan and ask for an extension on the car loan. Rumor has it that NC is two clicks away from issuing a shelter in place order. I'm off to the grocery store this afternoon to stock up on junk food and snacks. I'll get caught up on all my shows and Netflix documentaries. Who knows, maybe I'll cut up all the jeans I've ripped the butt out of and make my first attempt at sewing a quilt
....so whatcha usin' to cover yer butt?.....I know, "cheeky" of me to ask....

that's when you get on the phone and call his office (you'll get an answering machine) and tell him this. I am self employed and single. What am I supposed to do? What is your plan for people who fall in my group, who don't have unemployment benefits?

By the way, how is your boyfriend doing where he's at?
I'm calling his office now. Thanks for the great idea. ♥

BF is okay. They have 11 confirmed cases, I think. New Hanover County has closed all beaches to everyone except locals. He has taken work stuff home, and will be working from there until the dust settles. Other than TP and paper towels, fresh meat is the item he's having trouble finding at the grocery store. He will be fine, though. Fisherman at heart, and freezer stuffed with food, also a pantry that would make a doomsday prepper cry.

Sounds great! Good on the phone call. If enough of you call, they will see the need and hopefully address the issue very soon!

I have several people who book ahead. I've offered them all a house visit, if they need it while we're closed. Two of my most regular clients added fifty dollars to their total today when they paid. I didn't even know it until I finished for the day......I never look at the amount money they give me. I just ask if they need change, and stick it in my pocket. Same with checks and cards, I don't look at the final amount until I'm settling the day's books. It was very humbling and made me feel good at the same time when I realized what they had done. I'm not as panicked as I was this morning. Those two kind people made me see that Others do care and want to help. My faith in people is for now, renewed.
I've decided to set the chair back up in my basement and offer some clients to come to the house......not all, just the most regular ones. I will have to explain to them that my house is old and ugly, but this will suffice until we can return to the salon. Many of them have been to the chair in my basement before. When my ex-husband forced me to give up my own salon, my faithful clients came to the basement then. They didn't care how it looked, they just cared that I was doing their hair. So for the next 30 days, I'm a renegade hair stylist......I like the sound of that. Might start answering my phone with "Hello, Renegade Salon".
