Could be one of the biggest horror movies of all time.

I hope so, too. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the success of "It" will not only propel a quality sequel, but also another big project like "The Stand."

The reviews and box office success of "The Dark Tower" doesn't help, but "It" could tip the scale. I think "The Stand" would be a great 3-4 season mini-series. Would also love to see "Salem's Lot" get another adaptation.

I'm counting on IT to wash the bad taste of The Dark Tower movie out of my mouth, I was so disappointed that that was the first Stephen King movie I got to see in the theater. I'm 99% sure a movie (or tv series) of The Stand is not far off.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that The Gunslinger one day will be filmed in five parts. Something epic, along the lines of Once Upon a Time in the West. With great visuals, smart editing and a glorious musical score.

I can't believe they are actually making a tv series based on the recent movie, the whole thing was a disaster and doesn't warrant a tv series or a sequel. I can't believe we waited a decade for a big screen Dark Tower movie and all we got was ****. Project would have been better off staying with J.J. Abrams.

I don't want to jinx anything by saying that but I just have this feeling that this movie is going to be big, it might even change the way horror movies are made. Here's hoping all goes well.

buzz is good, and people are already buying their tickets. there's a lot of fans who have been waiting for this a long time. and a lot of fans of even just the miniseries who are interested.

I wonder how people who were terrified of the miniseries will react to this movie, the miniseries was about as scary as Full House. If this movie is as scary as Joe Hill says it is I can see some people fainting or maybe even having heart attacks.

....I think Idris Elba was miscast as Pennywise...............................................:D

But seriously, there should have been an evil chuckle coming up from the place with the Pennywise sign in The Dark Tower.
They missed the boat on that one, not that it would have made the movie any better.

I didn't have a problem with Idris Elba as Roland but it was clear he wasn't given much to work with, neither was MM.

good question. if they were terrified of the miniseries they can't really be watching some of the more hardcore stuff out there. either that or they have some real clown phobia, in which case, they're *really* in for it if they watch this one.

I hope Pennywise is really really scary and really really funny in this one, some of the stuff he said and did in the book made me laugh really hard. I don't know if this is the exact line but it made me laugh: "I've come to earth rape all the men, rob all the women, and learn to do the peppermint twist!"

This film will circle the drain faster than Georgie's paper boat........

The cynic in me (as well as the purist) wants to agree with you. I wasn't a fan of changing the time period. For one thing I think the original time period is as much a character as the Losers themselves. For another, big changes like that make me worry about what else they might have altered. My gut reaction is that I wouldn't go see it at all. That was my gut reaction to the Dark Tower and I wish I'd listened to it. However, I've changed my mind and will be seeing this opening week. I actually think this film has promise. There are lots of good portents:

1. The studio is investing in the promotion of it (something that was missing from the Dark Tower). They have faith in their project.
2. It is long, so long in fact that it has to be more than just a bunch of jump scares. It promises to do the story justice. The time has been allocated.
3. Someone who has already seen it here has given it excellent marks and answered my biggest worry, i.e. that the Losers childhood aspect was lost.
4. It is opening in what is often called Horror Prime, i.e. the month before October. Scary films they expect to have legs get this slot so they carry through.
5. The previews have demonstrated excellent cinematography.
6. Since some people have already seen it early, it means they don't expect the critics to savage it. More faith shown.

I could go on but the other good portents are things which would only mean things to me personally, and thus might be nothing more than wishful thinking. These I've listed so far are tangible. We might still be let down in September, but I think it is quite likely this will be a worthy version. I still want a faithful adaptation someday, but I'll take worthy as well. You won't find a bigger fan of the source material for the film than me, so if I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt...

I was able to see the movie, because of access from a friend who manages a more independent theater. They have trade screenings, where movie companies go, weeks in advance, to see movies and decide if they're gonna carry them. Lots of independent, or smaller "chain" theaters have tougher decisions to make regarding releases, because of their limited theater seating, less "bells and whistles," a typical appeal to a more "indie"'crowd, etc. So, there's a usual crowd that goes, and, as I was off that morning, was fortunate to get an extra seat. I say this to legitimize what I'm saying about "It..."

I don't know ANYONE that's seen "It" that didn't like it. Theaters around the area, including some of the independent ones I spoke of, are picking it up. Looking at a $60 million opening weekend, which is FANTASTIC. It's even more impressive considering the "R" rating, horror movie genre, and that "It" heavily features child actors. The movie makes significant deviations from the novel, but the heart of the story is there. The terror is DEFINITELY there. It's gonna give people nightmares, I promise you.

Don't underestimate "It."
