Anyone on here like documentaries? I love these things. I probably watch more of them than movies (except for the Halloween Movie Marathon month.)

I've watched some terrific things and I'm always scouring Netflix for a new and interesting doc.

Some I've watched:

Room 237
H.H.Holmes, America's First Serial Killer
Religulous
I AM
Shut Up Little Man
Gonzo
56 and Up! (and all the previous Up entries)
Woody Allen
Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired
Salinger
Hey Boo, Harper Lee and To Kill a Mockingbird
Evocateur: The Morton Downey Jr. Movie
Buckowski: Born into This
The Gospel According to Philip K. Dick
Girl 27
Of Dolls and Murder

These are just a handful of what I've watched just recently.

What are some of your favorites?

I recently posted in the latest movies thread about one called "Sons Of Perdition." It's about 3 teenage boys escaping the polygamist town (Colorado City, AZ) they are from. It's a disturbing look at the small polygamist religion that still exists and the terrible time the kids (and adults) have escaping it.
I've seen that on Netflix and wondered if it was any good.

I love documentaries too. Recently, I've watched 56 and Up (I've also seen all the other Ups), Detropia (a very interesting look at how the city of Detroit is completely falling apart), and Hitler's Children. This one wasn't actually about Hitler's offspring --if he had any, no one knows about them. Instead, the grandchildren of Eichman, Goering, Goebbels, etc… were interviewed about what it's like being descended from such infamous monsters.

Ooo, that last one sounds especially interesting. Have to put that in my list. Don't you love the 56 Up! series? I am addicted to these people, although I am much more interested in the men and the women who married them than I am in the women who participated.

I think the UP films are just fascinating. Every time a new one comes out, my husband and I discuss all the new developments in each person's life, talk about how their appearances have changed, reminisce about things that have happened to them over the years-- it's almost like they are related to us in some way… distant cousins, maybe. ;-D They are only one year older than me so that creates even more of a bond between me and them.

I'm concerned about the next go -- the director, Michael Apted, will be 79 -- God I hope he makes it or at least has a contingency plan in place to keep the series going. And, because sometimes I'm the glass-is-half-empty girl, I worry about each successive entry into the series, we have more chance of losing someone.

I am taking a break from cleaning the kitchen and cooking. I like to watch Nexflix while I'm messing around in there. I have recently watched The Eyes of the Mothman, totally creepy and highly recommended by me. Weird or What? is a pretty good show about odd things. Through the Wormhole is really good and... Can't think of the name of it but Stephen Hawking's Universe something or rather is fantastic.
Right now though I am watching Chariots of the Gods . It is cracking me up! It was made in the 70's and though it's an interesting documentary the sound track is pure 70's corn-pone.

I actually paid to go see Chariots of the Gods in the theaters when it came out. I was a kid and loved documentaries even then. More to put on my list that sound good. Thanks!

I'm currently watching Ray Harryhausen: Special Effects Titan

I love to watch documentaries too! I have recently watched "That Guy...Who Was in That Thing" about actors who always play supporting parts. You recognize them but probably don't know their names. It was pretty interesting.

I watch documentary things on PBS sometimes, Frontline, POV, Nature, Nova, even occasionally the subtitled Chinese CCTV ones in the afternoon on the MHz World channel. Saw a cool one of those once about some giant fish monster thing rumored to be in a lake somewhere over there. Saw that 56 Up too not long ago on PBS, never saw the other earlier ones, but was fascinated by it still.

I like documentaries, I love science based ones like Stephen Hawkin's Universe, weird or what?, Dark Matters etc. And music based ones - like classic albums, where they pick a classic album and go over the story of how it was made. I saw something simillar a few nights ago on Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd. After that, I like some reality documentaries like Ice Road Truckers (if you could call them documentaries).

I just watched a great musician related one last night. Ain't in It for My Health: A Film About Levon Helm. The main focus is his later years in life so it helps to go into the film already familiar with him. But it is not a necessity, there is some focus on the early years.

That Buckowski one was a good one too I thought.

It is very good and it's that

A small clarification: It's not a polygamist religion, it's called Fundamental Latter Day Saints (FLDS). Anytime the word Fundamental is attached to anything, there seems to be a problem.

You can't say fundamental without mental. :)
