I've seen that while scanning my queue, I may have to give it a go.I just watched a great musician related one last night. Ain't in It for My Health: A Film About Levon Helm. The main focus is his later years in life so it helps to go into the film already familiar with him. But it is not a necessity, there is some focus on the early years.
I think the musician ones can be particularly interesting because they live life pretty balls to the wall.I saw bits of the Pink Floyd one a while ago too--brilliant.
I've watched that one too and really enjoyed it. Think how many times you honestly really say that..."Oh look, it's that guy, who was in that thing!" hahaha! Character actors never really get the kudos they deserve.I love to watch documentaries too! I have recently watched "That Guy...Who Was in That Thing" about actors who always play supporting parts. You recognize them but probably don't know their names. It was pretty interesting.
I watch PBS a lot too, the Chinese one sounds promising. Do you remember the name of it? If you enjoyed the 56 Up! one, you should go back and start at the beginning. It is fascinating to watch these children grow up, and you end up caring for them and just hoping and praying that things are good for them in the next installment.I watch documentary things on PBS sometimes, Frontline, POV, Nature, Nova, even occasionally the subtitled Chinese CCTV ones in the afternoon on the MHz World channel. Saw a cool one of those once about some giant fish monster thing rumored to be in a lake somewhere over there. Saw that 56 Up too not long ago on PBS, never saw the other earlier ones, but was fascinated by it still.
Flake mentioned this Pink Floyd doc up above, so I'll have to put it on my list. Again, music ones are always on the edge of crazy, but fun! I will watch science ones too, a recent one was How Long is a Piece of String? Smart people out in this world and it was totally entertaining. I know it sounds dumb, but I was focused the whole time. They made it accessible while teaching something. Now, I'm not sure how much of it really soaked into my brain, but I try to better myself.I like documentaries, I love science based ones like Stephen Hawkin's Universe, weird or what?, Dark Matters etc. And music based ones - like classic albums, where they pick a classic album and go over the story of how it was made. I saw something simillar a few nights ago on Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd. After that, I like some reality documentaries like Ice Road Truckers (if you could call them documentaries).
True dat. ha!It is very good and it's that
A small clarification: It's not a polygamist religion, it's called Fundamental Latter Day Saints (FLDS). Anytime the word Fundamental is attached to anything, there seems to be a problem.
You can't say fundamental without mental.
I think this was the documentary, First there was a Poop Ball, Then There Wasn't, Then There Was -- The Early Years....since everybody thinks I'm fulla shi*...I'm especially fond of the documentary featuring my lil buddy here...

Try a couple in areas you find interesting. It can get addicting!I haven't really watched to many documentaries.
Oh, and HAPPY! I enjoyed that one a lot. THere are some pretty interesting documentaries on openculture.com, too. I especially liked the one (Trying to remember the name) with guitarists from three eras: Jimmy Page, The Edge, and Jack White, talking about music.Anyone on here like documentaries? I love these things. I probably watch more of them than movies (except for the Halloween Movie Marathon month.)
I've watched some terrific things and I'm always scouring Netflix for a new and interesting doc.
Some I've watched:
Room 237
H.H.Holmes, America's First Serial Killer
Religulous
I AM
Shut Up Little Man
Gonzo
56 and Up! (and all the previous Up entries)
Woody Allen
Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired
Salinger
Hey Boo, Harper Lee and To Kill a Mockingbird
Evocateur: The Morton Downey Jr. Movie
Buckowski: Born into This
The Gospel According to Philip K. Dick
Girl 27
Of Dolls and Murder
These are just a handful of what I've watched just recently.
What are some of your favorites?
I've watched almost all the TED talks. And yes, I watch food ones too as I have a son who is vegetarian (for long streaks of time I should say. He will eat meat if he knows that it is organic and he knows where it's coming from, but generally his diet is more focused on fruits, beans, legumes, veggies etc..) and has always passed on his knowledge of that world. I have no doubt tips he has given me have added years to my life.Do you like foody documentaries, DJ? I really enjoyed Food Inc. and Food Matters (though part of that one had a religious zealot-type feel). TED talks can be pretty darned good, too!

...all epsodes have been collected in an omnibus video edition entitled "Crap Happens"...I think this was the documentary, First there was a Poop Ball, Then There Wasn't, Then There Was -- The Early Years.
