Does nonfiction count as part of the 4-6 hours reading a day?

Does reading non-fiction count as part of the 4-6 hours of reading and writing a day you suggest a writer who wants to write fiction does? I'm figuring out whether the reading I do for university would count (I study Sociology).

Hi and welcome-- I would think, personally, that any reading would broaden one's mind to use of words, themes, styles.

...Hi James!....all reading-be it fiction, non-fiction, technical manuals-hell, restaurant menus can be a source of inspiration....

In a way, all writing is a form of fiction...there is no one objectively "real" depiction of reality, we must all filter through our interpretive lenses. So in some ways fiction is just a real as non-fiction, and vice versa.
