I didn't much like the Christmas Special My two favorite Christmas Specials are The Christmas Invasion (David Tennant's first story) and The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe with Matt Smith.
I quite liked the Christmas episode. It has a nice old school feel. Actually the season 10 episodes Empress of Mars and The Eaters of Light also had a bit of an old school feel.
As horrible a character as David Bradley is on Game of Thrones, so likeable he is here as the First, the Original Doctor - the part where he reprimands Bill on her language is the funniest bit.
I only have seen the first three stories with Hartnell which are in the boxset The Beginning, but it's enough to appreciate how close Bradley's performance is. Even the clock that is in the Tardis in those early episodes looks identical.
The war part reminded me of the Paul McCartney music video for Pipes of Peace (I always loved that song), maybe it was based on the same event.
Too bad it's now gonna be a long wait til Autumn after we're teased just a tiny bit with Whitaker's take on the role in the last minutes. The new Doctor will be falling down for a long, long time until the next season.
The one that got deleted appeared to be basically the same as #367. You'd said you couldn't edit so you re-wrote it. If you want the original back, it's no problem. Why was my first post after Christmas deleted? I can understand spoilers but not sure why it was deleted.
I loved the reprimanding on how she speaks. And I think he did a great job of playing Hartnell's Doctor. But I cannot get past the completely out of character comments.
It feels to me like it's going to be all about #MeToo and women's rights. I can get that from the news and Handmaids Tale.
My favourite is The Snowmen. Nice that Clara was back in Twice Upon a Time, although shortly.
I wonder if we'll ever see the Paternoster Gang back, it's one of the best things about Dr. Who. Too bad they still don't have a spin-off series, Moffat has said he was too busy for that, but surely there are other writers/showrunners who could do it.

A spin-off series featuring the Paternoster Gang would be fabulous! Was it under consideration at one time? Strax cracks me up
It was never really seriously under consideration I get the impression. I only remember that one comment Moffat gave about him being too busy for it.
But here he says he's hesitant to bring them back, even if the BBC lets him do a spin-off:

I don't know with a new showrunner if that could change. I suppose it always can.
I thought Richard Hurndall portrayed the first doctor beautifully in the story The Five Doctors. He was a bit condescending like the first doctor but he wasn't overly sexist.
I didn't think David Bradley pulled off the role as well, which was probably the fault of the writers and the director. Is he the same David Bradley who played Setrakion in The Strain? He didn't look like him
