If any of you have an extra prayer or two (or twenty)...my mom took a nasty fall New Years Eve. Slipped on a rug in the hallway on the way to the bathroom in the very early morning. Was knocked unconscious for about four hours and then had to inch her way on her side to the phone in the kitchen to dial 911. Was in the ER for over nine hours (I got there as soon as I got a call). She cracked and dislocated her shoulder - very painful stuff.

I've been taking care of her. She has an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon tomorrow afternoon and I pray for some good news. She's been in so much pain she just cries, then I cry because I can't do anything about it. Lots of other B.S. with meds and E.R., but that's for another day. Thanks in advance for your prayers. Her name is Lucy.
What a horrifying experience for Lucy and then the pain is still there!! She is so lucky she has you in her corner. ((((Morgan and Lucy)))) I'll remember you both at mass today.

If any of you have a spare prayer...My uncle had some major surgery to reconstruct his ear canal (or something like that) this morning. He'd been almost deaf in that ear since childhood and somehow got a raging ear infection in the last six months.

On a side note, due to some insurance bureaucracy, he was released from the hospital only a few hours after surgery (even though this wasn't considered routine outpatient surgery). He's a physician himself and I wonder if that can happen to someone like him, what hope is there for non-medical people?! Scary stuff.
There's a lot of nasty germs hanging around hospitals these days, maybe he/they did not want to risk a further infection. My dad was a surgeon and he would tells us at least twice a year that he had to cancel some of his surgeries because the hospitals had to close down the ORs to spray them down for staph! Once sprayed they were off limits for 24 hours. Staph is becoming more and more resistant. Not good.

He has to go back to doctors. Find out what is going on. He can't leave to go back up North till you both have some answers of what happened, Neese.

It makes my heart hurt to think of your husband lying cold on a garage floor, trying to make it back to you.
....agreed, it there is the possibility of an old infarct, then the groundwork has been laid.....I am also uncomfortable with "well, maybe the first CT was misread" ... WHAT?????....seems like a third would be in order so they can make up their minds....and , they need to give you some kind of diagnosis.....humans don't just fall down and the exhibit the symptoms Andy did-without a cause.....there is an obvious neurological component to all of this, and they need to run a full battery of blood tests, an EKG, a Doppler of his heart, check for tumor markers etc....stay on them.....

Hi Holly - it is minus 25 here and with the wind chill around minus 30 to 35. I just thank God that he did not collapse in our garage at this temperature!

It was only about minus 12 that night. So here is the story (as best he remembers) - he went outside for a smoke and went into the garage. It is a detached garage, about 20 feet from our house.

He says his leg gave out from under him and he fell down and could not get up - yeah, I know - reminds me of that old commercial about the lady and the Medic Alert alarm "I've fallen and I can't get up!" hehe - but seriously he says he lay on the garage floor for about four hours and then finally was able to move and made his way into the house.

He made his way up the stairs and pulled on the bed covers, which woke me up. I was startled and started saying Oh!~ what time is it? Did I sleep in? etc. I looked at him and his eyes were going back and forth rapidly and then he just sunk down onto the floor. His arms were held close to his body and his hands were clenched. His skin was very cold. I freaked out and called 9-1-1. They stayed on the line to make sure he was breathing until help arrived.

So the paramedics came etc. Five big guys were standing in the hallway outside our bedroom. They got him downstairs on a stretcher and took him to the local hospital. I wanted him to go to Health Sciences Centre where I work but they said they HAD to take him to Seven Oaks.

Well, think I will cut the long story short here. He had his CT and they thought they saw a grey area but released him after he had been there about 10 hours under observation. He saw OT/PT who cleared him to walk, etc.

We went back yesterday for a second CT and this one was clear! This does not make sense to me. The doctor told Andy that maybe the CT from Thursday was read incorrectly. So now the story is he DID NOT have a stroke but there could be an old infarct on the scan from a remote stroke.

I don't know if all of this makes sense. I am just glad he is back to normal. He feels weak and sore from lying on the cement in the cold. Poor guy - he has to go back up North on the 22nd!

Thanks for everyone's prayers and well wishes - this place is the greatest!

Oh wow, Neese. Thoughts and prayers for you and Andy. Did you say he has a history of any such symptoms or other kinds of symptoms?

Apologies...again...life can surely get in the way...keeping you all in prayers...
Little Eva that I posted about was able to come home for Christmas! What a blessing. She is back in the hospital for more Chemo right now but is doing so much better infection-wise.
Please know you're loved and prayed for daily...
Hopefully Mom will get the cast off of her hand in a couple days. She's going nuts not being able to do much...we're still taking them one meal a day to help with the cooking...No way she'll accept help with much more...she will be 84 on the 16th and Dad will be the same in March. Like teenagers in attitude..

Keeping little Eva in my heart. She's so blessed to have so many people who love her.
-And when I worked with geriatric folks I constantly reminded myself of the whole second childhood theory and respected their right to have one. Bless you with all the patience!

I haven't been on much since the holidays... and just now saw this. Your Mother and you are in my thoughts and prayers. Is there any new update? I hope they can find a stronger pain reliever she can take. ((((((((((((((((( Lucy & Morgan))))))))))))))))

Hi guys (and gals)

Andy is in the hospital. I had to call 911 this morning at 5 a.m. He just suddenly collapsed. His eyes were going back and forth and then he just sunk to the floor. Luckily he grabbed the end of the bed covers, waking me up. I thought I had slept in or something, since he woke me up so suddenly.

The paramedics came and the girl on the phone stayed with me, telling me what to do until they got here.

I am heading there now - I wanted to make sure Josh got off to work okay first.

I hope it is not a stroke - he was still breathing okay but he had a sort of unfocused distant look in his eyes.

Please say a prayer for him that he will recover and that it is not something serious.

Thank you

(love and green lights)
I agree with everyone else... I wouldn't let them brush this off as something minor that will probably never happen again. Something significant happened .. it may not have been a stroke, but it was 'something' and they need to find out what exactly it was. Prayers going up for your honey and you... ((((((((((((((( Andy & Neesy)))))))))))))))
