I really liked this one too,for me,maybe because of having to work hard enough to raise blisters on the hands..and in the heat.Of course I can't imagine doing that under the conditions of the California/Nevada desert, where it is gets really hot..but I thought SK really caught the suffering of the main character and what he was willing to do in his search for justice..

I was impressed with the technical detail of digging the hole (as Cody pointed out in the first post). SK doesn't usually get that technical and it had me wondering if Steve really did the math or if he was just making it up. After I finished, I read the notes and brother Dave impressed the hell out of me.
I thought that Arc of descent was interesting
Has anyone seen the movie adaptation? Is it any good?
Uh....something something Dark Tower. *shrug*I did pick up an unusual mistake. When the protagonist tunes into the radio, he tunes in to an impossibility. There is no WKXR in Vegas, nor could there ever be. Radio and TV station call letters west of the Mississippi River start with a K, not a W. A rare flub from Uncle Stevie.
The Cask of Amontillado sprang to mind for me, too. A lot of similarities and I think they were purposeful. I grew up in Vegas so I am very familiar with the area. SK did a great job of setting and place. The story is paced well - you never feel rushed or like it's being dragged out. Ghost story? Mayhap. I guess that's up to us.

I've heard it before. Maybe East Coast?Tinker calls Robinson Whitebread. I've never heard that term. Is it a term used in Maine?
Not a slur, exactly. It usually means middle-class, suburban types.Tinker didn't use the term in an insulting fashion. Is it usually used as a slur?
No, but this story makes it seem fun, doesn’t it?Have any of y'all exacted revenge on anyone?
