Before I tell you this story, I feel the need to also tell you that I am very "smart." I've been tested, more than once, and I am WELL into the genius category on IQ tests. Just so you know. This is the sort of thing that happens to me, and why I don't think those tests necessarily measure what we think they do.

On Halloween, I had to run a quick errand to our grocery store. We'd already been to one Halloween party that morning, and we were having some friends over to watch scary movies and trick or treat. I needed to pick up some festive snacks and dinner food so we could cram some nutrition into the little goblins between the candy feasts.

As I was shopping in the produce section, I noticed one of the employees had a HORRIBLE scar on his cheek. It went from up near his eye down to his jawbone. He was a young guy, and the scar was healed enough that he must have gotten it in his teens. He was wearing a pinstripe suit and a pinstripe fedora, and an apron. I kept looking at his scar, but trying not to stare obviously. It was really, really bad. Did he get in a fight? Was it from a car accident? I wondered if, when the injury occurred, he had been able to see his teeth from outside THROUGH his cheek? I felt really sorry for him, because it must have been a traumatic experience and he would be reminded of it every day of his life!

Next, I went to the deli, because I was looking for those pre-made sub sandwiches. The woman behind the counter was wearing a regular white deli jacket, but it was COVERED with blood spatter. I thought, "What the he!!? She looks like freaking Dexter! That is nassssssssty!" It kind of turned my stomach. How gross is that? Seriously, I hope she was washing her hands regularly at least. Gah!

It wasn't until I turned the corner and saw a customer dressed as a skeleton that I realized, "Oh DUH, it's Halloween!" How did that not occur to me sooner, especially since I was there to shop for a HALLOWEEN PARTY? Why did I notice the scar on the man in produce, but not the fact that he was wearing a SUIT to work at the grocery store? And why didn't the random Dexter comparison not give my brain a clue about the deli worker?

This is why I always say that genius is not the same as any useful sort of intelligence, and that I would trade it for "common sense" any day!

It's okay to laugh at this stuff, I do. Pretty much every day!

Not drinking, not on a sugar high, just a dumdum! Like always!

I really considered not buying the sandwiches, but then I thought about how I would have to actually cook something. So now you know, laziness trumps cleanliness in my disordered mind. Sad, huh?

I'll settle for just smelling the cookies, and cinnamon rolls. I can't eat them, but I can smell their wonderful flavor.

Hey! you're drooling on my cinnamon rolls! :smiley_simmons: :black_eyed::frog::snowman::sorrow::stupid::teapot::tiger::very_drunk::horror: (Don't ask me what these smilies have to do with this post, I just wanted to see them. ha!)
Hey - there is another advantage - we no longer have to limit ourselves to four when it comes to smilies - if and when PatintheHat comes back he will be delighted :eek-new:

Just be glad you didn't ask him where he got that scar. As it is, only you know your folly. If you'd said something, everybody else would, too.
