The Outsider starts on HBO on Sunday night. Look for my preview at News from the Dead Zone online tomorrow. I've seen the first six episodes and I'm loving it. Even though some things have been changed, I think it's one of the most faithful adaptations I've seen in a long time. It feels like they were spying inside my head when I read the novel at times.

I saw the trailer and thought it looked good. I was happy to see Ben Mendelsohn was in it.

I thought it was well done. One of those rare instances where the TV version is as good or better than the book. The first episode jumped around a bit and it was sometimes hard to follow whether they were showing pre or post murder events. Also that annoying muting of the dialogue for dramatic effect happened a lot. But overall a solid show through two episodes. I do wonder if it will hold up for the entire series.

Recently watched the first three episodes during a free preview, as I hop on/off the channel (currently off). May have to hop back on. This adaptation is excellent, there's no other word which would be as usefully concise. Such a satisfying tale. I'm feeling as entertained with this series asset as I was with Breaking Bad. King wrote a great story; now, it is succeeding again in another format. I know it might be premature to say this since I have only seen three episodes, but I doubt I'll feel the rest of the series does any sort of injustice to King's original concept.

Off-topic bonus: the first episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm is not to be missed. David is still in fine form.

Enjoyed watching The Outsider. Not sure they needed a full 10 episodes to complete the story a few of the later episodes could have been condensed I felt. Definitely worth a look and if you did watch the final episode I hope you......
didn’t turn your TV off as the credits started to air!!! I have a question about that little scene with Holly. Who scratched her? Guess that little scene could mean another season??

I agree. They could have ratcheted up that intensity by making the shows tighter and fewer. 10 wasn't necessary.

The acting was good. Ben Mendelsohn was low-key fascinating to me.

And I love Jason Bateman. He did a great job.

I did. And I don't know the answer.

Is it a red herring? They were in a shootout, a cave collapse and Ralph has a scratch on his face too. Maybe Holly just got banged up. But they definitely took advantage of planting seeds for a Season 2.

Nothing seems to be made of Ralph's scratch, but the focus on Holly -- that's a poser for sure.

Right before Ralph crushes the outsider's skull, it goes through a series of shapeshifts. I need to watch the scene again because it seemed to me that I saw Ralph and Holly both in the goo as it was melting away. Or maybe my mind just wanted to see that.
