Great choices, but that would be one expensive cast.

You know what would be a good way to get this franchise moving? Try to get Lions Gate/Summit interested in making it. Who owns the rights to this now, anyway, is it still Howard/Imagine? If they went over to Lions Gate, that company could easily reduce the investment risk on the project (as it is wont to do through international sales) and attempt to Hunger-Games the thing into existence. And with Lions Gate's Mad Men ending, and the studio's connection to AMC, it could easily convince the latter to air a Tower series to air in-between the films. Plus, I believe Lions Gate recently made an investment in a video-game company, so perhaps that's how you get to the theorized video-game component.

Movies...TV series...video games. Which leads to action figures, apparel, boardgames, etc. What do you think, can we make this happen? Maybe Lions Gate could bring Netflix onboard as an investment partner. Come on, whoever owns the rights, get creative with the financing and transfers-of-risk and get going!

I like Viggo Mortenson as Roland, but Anson Mount is perfectly acceptable! They should hire you as the casting director ASAP and get this thing on the air!

But I'm sort of with not_nadine here ... putting this on screen would cheapen it. No one would ever be able to do it justice. Stepping in it, here, I'm sure, but even SK himself being involved with a project based on his work is no guarantee it's going to be any good. (ahem, Under the Dome).

Is the basic concept of Movie -> Show or vice-versa still the planned approach?
The idea of seeing this getting done both excites me and scares me so much. I can't help but think of Lord of the Rings. While I really liked that Peter Jackson got the job, I still felt that too much was glossed over or just completely left out; even in the extended versions.
If the Show/Movie concept is still in effect I can see "them" being able to pull it off without messing up anything too badly.
However, if it goes just a movie(s) only route...I'll still pay and I'll still probably buy the Blu-ray but,...:concern:.

Under The Dome - indeed. I had to stop watching barely two shows into the first season.

I too like the choices that Discordia 19 made for the main characters. I truly have no idea who I would chose but then I am almost as old as King and every actor I would have chosen it too old now or dead.

I recently reread the entire seven books during a recuperation. I still have the original slimmer version of the first book. I am not sure I would want to see The Dark Tower in movie format.

I had a secretary in my office that loved "Needful Things" becasue she only saw the movie. I finally went, at her urging, to see it and I hated it. Something is usually lost in the translation.

Discordia 19 cast are good. I still think that Daniel Craig as ROland would be good. He can be very intense and is a good actor. And he has the rough look.(see Cowboys and Aliens to see the look)

And he made a spot-on, perfect Comedian in The Watchmen. But, as Roland? Dunno about that.

Well its all just a moot point now, (I used to think that word was mute, as in 'silence, there's no use in talking about it anymore, it's settled), but good call on the Watchmen, I had totally forgotten he played the Comedian in it. Now I'm going to have to scare up the DVD and watch it again....
