After I binged read your book On Writing. I reluctantly (sorry, need adverb here) tried your exercise. Now, I must tell you that I am a trained screenwriter and have written about 6 - 7 screenplays so far, hence, the idea that I don't need to plot out a story goes against everything I believe. But, I gotta tell you I took your situation of the abusive husband and his wife and switched it around as you suggested and was pleasantly surprised. It just kept coming as I wrote and it wasn't premeditated at all. I wrote it truthfully and for once, without doubting myself while in the process. My truth comes from my belief that while a person sleeps at night their spirit is emancipated (although still attached by a thin link) and can travel in the spirit world. I think it took me like 30 mins to write three pages.
