I went to the movies today to see Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
We sat down in the second row from the front (like to be close to the action.) A few minutes into the movie, the guy behind us started making comments about what was happening on the screen.
"Uh,oh!" "That had to hurt!" "Look at that!" etc.
We looked back a couple of times, but to no avail. So we got up and moved: bad decision.
The lady and her husband next to me kept "whispering," and he kept telling her what was happening or what he believed would happen next.
The couple behind us had a three- or four-year-old who (like any young child) talked through the whole movie. "Is that Captain America?" "Is it over?" (That one possibly 100 times.) "When can we go?" Plus, she obviously was very sick judging from the deep, congested cough we heard every minute or so. I know it wasn't her fault. I just wanted to turn around and hand them a twenty-dollar bill and say, "Next time, just get a babysitter. Please."
My whole movie experience was ruined. I couldn't focus on the story due to all the noise around us. I just don't get it. Do they think they're in their living rooms at home, and other people can't hear them? Do they think other patrons like hearing their comments and noises? I understand I can't have complete quiet, but c'mon.
Also, I know I could've gotten up to get an usher, but then I'd have had to miss more of the movie. Plus, you never know how people will react...
Anyway, thanks for listening. I plan to see the movie again when there will be fewer people in the theater.

Also, it occurs to me that a different theater might be in order next time. Some may be better managed, or at least attack fewer lame, inconsiderate riff raff. You could complain to the theater's management, which might be being run by people who think who don't care or don't see a problem. It's a shame what some aspects of our culture have descended into.

All you were missing is some asshat talking on their cell phone......last movie we went to a gaggle of tween-age girls sat behind us and took turns taking pics of each other with their cell phones so they could post pics on Facebook that they were at the movies...Why? Who cares you were at the movies? The whole Facebook way of life is lost on me....

beans beans, the magical fruit? Stock Up. And let loose? Course, maybe after a good hearty meal of beans, you go theatre-bopping and everyone there are quiet church-going folk. popcorn. great big whopping container of it...pass it back to the neighbors. was at a concert at the Calumet Theater recently...three drunks sitting in our aisle...every five minutes one or all three are up on the way to wherever...back and forth. intermission, the ushers find a pint bottle under one seat...we tell them such and such...to no avail. we walked out after the intermission as did at least one other couple, or two other couples.

I don't get Facebook either, ghost.
The main thing I think it's for is vanity and making yourself feel good because other people "like" everything you post.
I realize some people like to keep in touch who are far apart, but keep it private with email--you can even send pictures and stuff.
No one talked on his phone at my movie; I'm surprised.
Another thing: the squeaky theater chairs. Y'know they kind of rock? About 5 of them squeaked LOUDLY whenever the movie-watcher changed positions.
Where's the WD-40 when you need it?

Hard to say "like" to such an uninvited, miserable experience.

I have to say, we've counted ourselves pretty lucky the last number of times we've gone. It's been pretty much the way movies are supposed to be.

So very sorry, Danie. We're hoping to go see it too. Now I'll hope for better circumstances than yours.

Oh danie! This is my absolute worst nightmare! - to go to a movie and have people like that surrounding me.

We had one next to us once (on my husband's side of the row) who kept answering her phone. Why do they even bother to go out? It just ruins the entire experience of watching a movie on the big screen. That really sucks and I am sorry you had to go through that.

I know exactly what you mean and how annoying that is. (plus movies and popcorn are not cheap either). What is going on these days with people in movie theaters anyway? It is as if no one has good manners anymore.

This is why I usually wait for anything I want to see to be available on dvd or bluray. People have become so rude, arrogant and selfish. I am so-o sick of moving out of the way so the person coming towards me won't run into me because they are too busy texting to be bothered to look up and see that a collision is going to happen. Just plain rudeness. Our whole way of life has turned into memememememememememe anymore. Noone cares that they are disturbing another person. I'm tired of listening to other peoples intimate details while they are on a cell phone. Rudeness. How have we gotten to the point in our lifestyle where you have to call or text someone you are with when out shopping to find out their location in the same store? We are losing the 'human touch' people. So sad.

A similar scenario happened to me a few weeks back...I complained to management before leaving the cinema and received two complimentary tickets for myself, and for three other couples who also had their movie experience ruined. It is easy to ask why I/we didn't complain during the movie but as I informed the manager, I should not have to leave the movie to complain when there are plenty of staff on duty and it should be part of their role to monitor what is happening inside of the theatres, and reprimand/remove those who are being disruptive.

Dang, I guess I should have complained! Maybe I could've gotten free tickets...
Next time I will. And as Lepplady commented, I really wasn't enjoying the movie, but I still didn't want to get up and leave for those who were being rude.
Plus, I always think I'm being oversensitive. It's not like these people were being really loud, or that everyone was annoyed. They were just ruining my experience because I kept having to take myself "out of the movie" and remember where I was. Ushers might not even reprimand them unless they were seated where I was, for as long as I was.
One good thing I do remember: Chris Evans's beautiful face.

Well, it's not the worst thing in the world, but it is annoying!
We just don't go to the movies (as often as I would like), and when I go, I would like to enjoy it instead of cringing through the whole thing.
