So what exactly is the "shelf life" of humor?Doesn’t mean the jokes relevant again.Take any celebrity that’s been the subject of hate, regardless of your opinions on that celebrity the joke gets stale and repetitive to an extreme very quickly to the point where every joke about them isn’t the same and there’s no room left for originality. The whole “I hate Justin Bieber” thing started a decade ago, there’s no relevance or humor left in any of the jokes, they’re all the same.
Some jokes remain timeless, but there was no humor in the whole “lol, Justin Bieber sucks” ever, the joke became dry faster than the speed of life. There was no originality to them, they were a thing of 2009 and shouldn’t have left there. The joke was “dead” from the very start. I don’t want to go into some large complex explanation of meme culture, but understand this, all punchlines can only remain funny for so long. Especially in an instance like this, where the joke was never funny because they were all carbon copies of each other. Its an already decomposed horse that people still manage to beat dry. It happens all the time. Plenty of things remain timeless, but there’s a reason the expression “dated” exists. Both Justin Bieber and the memes about him should’ve remained in 2009.So what exactly is the "shelf life" of humor?
Isn't relevance an individual thing?
There are a ton of "You killing me Smalls" T-shirts being sold today and that movie just celebrated its twenty fifth...
Take my wife...Please...(Henny Youngman but still I giggle a little)...
Humor is very subjective. If you don't like it don't laugh. (Like me watching anything Will Farrell has ever done)...
And sorry to disagree but Mr Bieber is funny...
But what do I know? I want a "I Still hate Christian Laetner" shirt and he hasn't been relevant for a loooong time...
While not really wanting to argue over Justin Bieber humor and definitely not wanting ANYONE to try and explain meme culture, which in my opinion could never have a large complex anything, I cannot agree that "all punchlines can only remain funny for so long". It contradicts the initial statement of some jokes remaining timeless. The joke may or may not have been funny to you (or possibly even to me) but it is obvious it is funny to someone, hence the subjectivity I spoke of above. Some jokes remain timeless, but there was no humor in the whole “lol, Justin Bieber sucks” ever, the joke became dry faster than the speed of life. I don’t really want to make this any kinda argument either, I see your points, but I can’t agree on all of them. I personally don’t usually find a joke so run to the ground that funny, especially when it’s beyond dated and went out of style 10 years ago. Like I said, the Justin Bieber memes aren’t a dead horse, they are a decomposed horse that’s been ravaged by the buzzards. Humor is subjective, true, but that doesn’t stop a joke from being collectively agreed upon by a majority of people as being “dead”/over-exhausted. And to hopefully lighten the discussion just a tad...
It's "the speed of light"...
Although at my age "the speed of life" becomes a thing too...
This was right before that...(what is that? groundhog, wombat, pit viper?)....tore her lips right off her face.
That was cute - I have a technical question for you - Andy got a laptop and they put 120 Gigs in it but it wasn't enough so they increased it to 500 - what does this mean?
