I have a poor grasp of irony at times, when it comes to more complex irony than cups that aren't supposed to fall that fall anyway. I'm hoping that this thread will help me out.

The other day I got dressed and wore my bright yellow rain coat because it was a fun colored jacket to pair with a red skirt, hounds tooth pattern leggings and black boots. Later when it was beginning to rain, someone told me that I was smart to prepare in advance by wearing a rain coat. I explained that I hadn't known it was going to rain, and only wore it because it was yellow. The person I was talking to told me that that is a great example of irony. It doesn't seem like irony though?

I'm no expert on irony, either. Maybe this will help...

You want to know about irony?

Ask a kid.

Kids know all about irony.

My mother used to tell me "Don't do as I do, do as I say!" (maybe your mother told you that, too) I had to defy her in order to find out for myself that it was pretty good advice.

That's irony.
