Patrick Nagel (November 25, 1945 – February 4, 1984) was an American artist. He created popular illustrations on board, paper, and canvas, most of which emphasize the simple grace and beauty of the female form, in a distinctive style descended from Art Deco. He is best known for his illustrations for Playboy magazine and the pop group Duran Duran, for whom he designed the cover of the best selling album Rio.

Death
In 1984, at the age of 38, the artist participated in a 15-minute celebrity "Aerobathon" to raise funds for the American Heart Association. Afterwards, he was found dead in his car, and doctors determined by autopsy that he had suffered a heart attack.

Well, there's a great illustration of irony found in O. Henry's "The Gift of the Magi", a simple but very powerful short story. A poor young couple struggles to find a way to give each other a Christmas gift. He sells his watch to buy beautiful combs for her long hair, she sells her long hair to buy a chain for his watch. I read it when I was young and I've thought of it every holiday season since.

I've read this last weekend in a bookstore. It broke my heart.

It is ironic to me that in my experience the worst doctors in terms of speaking clearly, enunciating words, etc. are the otolaryngologists or ear, nose, throat doctors.

They deal with patients who have hearing problems but I wish they could listen to themselves speak when dictating letters.

I wonder why this is?
