From inside the King Suite at the Charles Inn

Josh taking a picture of the Mangler - that purple dress has nothing to do with Carrie or a prom - it's just to illustrate a piece of equipment that was purportedly used by Stephen King when he worked at a laundry in Bangor. There is also a story attached inside that frame but they got a couple of facts wrong - still - it is a nice tribute to him.

They go from where he got a phone call at his school regarding the book Carrie being sold (the rights to the book) and apparently it was fifth period. Then the author of the little piece goes on to say he (Stephen King) sunk to the ground in shock regarding it.

Plus he then says he wanted to rush out and buy his wife something but the only thing open was the drugstore so he bought her a hair dryer. I know parts of this story are true however if King was at school at fifth period, then why was he there on a Sunday? I know - I am being picky (must be a true fan) Like they said on the weekend - there is a fine line between "fan" and "fanatic" ;;D:tounge:
I remember that story about the hair dryer - think it was in On Writing maybe? I thought it was a weekend or holiday he got the call and Tabby and kids were not at home. Now I'm curious. Need to dig out that book one more time! :)

Oh yeah - I agree about the story - I think they just got the time line wrong - it was as if he was combining two stories into one, as if it happened on the same day - hey morgan - long time no see! It's great to be back!

So happy you and Josh are home safely! Your son is a handsome young man and everyone commented on his kindness. He must have a good mom! ;)

We met Doowopgirl and Gerry, Vince, Deb913
Tracey (who's a powerhouse - would not let us help clean)
BrianThomas1919 and Kara - his date.
I was thrilled when Neesy got there. (She was running late.)

Misery Loves Company and Stacey were so kind;
Didn't drink enough to speak in rhyme - they didn't mind.
I had Ms. Mod's pie, which I would highly recommend.
Nothing's better than strawberries and fresh rhubarb, friend.

All the men were handsome and the ladies beautiful,
Offspring, there with parents, were polite and dutiful.
Too bad GNTSON's - Seth - decided on the Army, though.
Despite that, he's still someone we're glad we got to know.
Josh, the lovely Neesy's son, was also very sweet.
House was filled with friendship and terrific things to eat.
Do(one)You(nine)Love? and her plus one - the charming Jane -
Stood and watched the loons with us beside that lake in Maine.

I remember thinking, as the sun began to set,
This must be what Sai King meant when he described ka-tet.
We drank toasts to all of you. We drank a toast to Nate.
Then, before I realized it, it was getting late.

I'm afraid we found ourselves the last ones out the door.
I'd had so much fun that night it left me wanting more.
Mr.S. and I played golf and missed the Meet and Greet
But we met up at the Oriental Jade to eat.

I think these poems all need to be gathered together in a book! They are so much fun!

I feel I owe an explanation of karaoke night in case anyone watched Mrs. Blue’s video on facebook....
So we all know there had been champagne, thank you, Morgan! There had also been the aforementioned mai tais and craft beer. Mr. and Baby Blue were my ride, because I don’t drink and drive....anyway we ended up at the karaoke tavern (cash only? What year is this and the ATM was highway robbery).....let me just say that I own the fact that I am a TERRIBLE karaoke singer! Heck, I embrace it! I was a good singer once a long time ago....
Not anymore. I do karaoke because I love it. I don’t care that I’m off key and sound like a drunk, dying rooster....I enjoy the heck out of doing it.
Baby and Mr. Blue, on the other hand, are VERY good....stars. Mr. Blue even does a little dance when he sings “Tainted Love”.

Got a chance to see this and it made me feel so much joy! Mr.Blue has some smooth dance moves:)

Mr. Blue and I are back safe and sound in Seattle. We had such an amazing time that I think I finally have him sold on the idea of moving to Bangor. Thank you so much to everyone who planned and attended. You all made it so special. <3 I didn't take too many photos but will try to upload what I did at some point (I still have issues attaching from my phone).

That would be very cool if you guys move to Maine!

Somebody (I think it's Stacy) makes the most amazing t-shirts - some are very hard to come by :zip_it:

Thank you Neesy:) The Long Walk shirt is from the Noctirnal Readers box and there might still be some for sale.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Can someone tell us more about the panel discussion with Bev Vincent, Robin Furth, Gerald Winters and Glenn Chadbourne?

Was there a Q & A? And what fun stuff did you learn?

Only thing that I regret is that I missed this talk.
(We were busy ruining a perfectly nice walk.)
Then I felt too shy to just approach them at the Jade
Missed my opportunity because I was afraid.

Didn't want to interrupt the speakers and Ms. Mod;
After all I've read about them, I was slightly awed.
If there is a next time, hope I muster up the nerve
To deliver them the praise and thanks that they deserve.
:hammer:

Josh is such a sweetheart; he GAVE me his Kon shirt and rode shotgun in my car most of the time.

He sounds like an amazing young man. Hopefully I will get to meet all these people someday. Since reading all the Kong 2018 posts and seeing all the
pics, it makes me feel like I know them, a little, already.

I think my wife and I stayed at the Charles Inn in the late 1990s -- back then it was called the Phenix Inn.
The Charles Inn was apparently quite run down and seedy but they then featured it on an episode of Hotel Impossible. The current owners have had it for a few years. They are trying to convert all the rooms into theme rooms e.g. there is The Brady Gang Room which is related to a famous incident from way back when. I liked the location and the staff was very friendly. Even Housekeeping gave us lots of extra coffee, creamer and sugar (it helps if you leave them a tip) =D

Neesy -- thank you so much for all the pictures. Totally awesome!!! Enjoy putting names to faces.
Will try to post more but right now have to go to the travel agent with receipts so I can claim that unexpected stay at a hotel in Toronto due to flight delays.
Thanks!

We almost stayed there after our first place fell through but then found the cabin and just could resist the lure. Based on your review, I think I'll give the Charles Inn a go next time!
