Very strange. I've never experienced something like that myself ever. You'd think it could be some sort of earth tremor, but that can't turn on the radio.
Is it like a presence you can feel? I always imagine with such things that you would probably feel some sort of presence along with things moving. Or does it strictly feel like things flying around, nothing more than that?
I've never experienced a feeling, just seen things move.

Oh, I'm not discounting poltergeist type activity entirely. Weird things like what you wrote about happen. Reported activity from credible sources is always benign in nature (much like what you described).

However, that house has had two additional owners over the 40+ years since the Lutz's abandoned it. Neither had any issues whatsoever. None of the previous owners ever reported any problems either. The house recently sold again for over a million dollars as that part of NY is tres swanky.

The whole ridiculous mythology around that property stems from the defense Ronnie DeFeo and his lawyer cooked up for his murder trial. They had to come up with something unique if they were to have any chance of getting a not guilty verdict. DeFeo confessed to police within two hours of being brought in for questioning. Gave them specifics of the crime that only someone there would have known and told them where to find the murder weapon. He also left the box for the rifle he used in his bedroom closet. Not a very bright guy.

Motive for those murders was greed. Ronnie had a drug problem and was tired of working for his father and grandfather for what he considered to be chump change. His grandfather and father were connected to the Gambino crime family via the car dealership his grandfather owned. The service department was basically a chop shop and was a front for a stolen car ring. Ronnie thought that there were huge sums of money running through the dealership. He staged (and bungled) a fake robbery of the dealership shortly before he killed his family. When the robbery didn't pan out he thought that his Dad was hiding the money in the house. He decided he'd take the money, kill his family and blame it on robbers. This is all from the non-fiction book High Hopes that was written by the DA that prosecuted the case.

Ronnie has changed his story every time he comes up for parole. During the trial it was the insanity / devil made me do it defense. After that it was the Gambinos whacked my family because Roy DeMeo was getting cheated out of his cut of the chop shop profits. Now it's his sister Dawn killed everyone while he was out and that he had to kill her in self defense when he got home because she tried to kill him too. The whole thing is preposterous.

I would like them to make a serious movie about the events leading up to the DeFeo murders and the subsequent trail. Amityville II sort of did that but it was essentially a hokey demon possession movie at it's core.

Oh yeah, one other fun fact! The setting for Jaws was originally going to be Amityville. Peter Benchley purposely changed the name to Amity so as to distance his novel from the murders that had just happened.
I've heard about that, too, and it certainly makes sense. I'm not particularly caught up in demonic possession stuff--never seemed logical to me. I do like books/movies about that stuff sometimes, but they never cross my mind as anything but fiction.

And, yes, I know exactly how silly that sounds--lol

NO. I read a biography of Dalmer. He liked to boil heads. He used to be is the army. Was he insane? Say your a President of the USA who's administation spend 3 to 6 trillion dollars on rubbish and then gets an award from the former first lady for being good to minorities, is that a psycho?

Not sure what the one has to do with the other. Which should, of course, be in Hot Topics. This thread is about movies we've watched. Capice?

Me, I watched Blade Runner 2049. I was blown away by the cinematography -- amazing!! Hope it wins the Oscar for this. Every shot was like a beautiful photograph. :emmersed:

That's another one I hope to find time to watch. I thought the cinematography in Thor: Ragnarok was interesting, too. Many of the shots were composed and framed like the fantasy art of Frank Frazetta. It's easy to put artistry like that (cinematography, I mean) aside, but it can make or break a movie.

Or, more specifically, Jack Kirby.

....those that have had the house over the years, may just not be open to the paranormal-it truly exists, and I won't be dissuaded from feeling that, nor do I think anyone else has to believe.....I'm about as sensitive as a concrete block about these things and yet, I've heard and I've seen.....

I was still wondering about this. Are you absolutely sure, because the novel Jaws was published February 1974 and the DeFeo murders happened in November of that year.

:hmm:

Hmmm, give me a minute...

(For the record, I don't think he was clinically insane, no. I have some thoughts on this but I won't get into it. However, I think he had an authentic born again experience in prison. I know, they all say this when incarcerated and act like kittens for reporters but I believed him.)

I may have been thinking about the change in location for the movie as the book was set in NY and the movie is set on an island.

You are right about the dates.

Could be. And as I said, I don’t entirely dismiss paranormal activity. Not throwing shade at your beliefs by any means.

There is a heck of a difference between typical poltergeist activity and demonic possession by real estate.

120 miles S of the Pancake/Waffle line
The Space Between Us (2017) Gary Oldman (in his worst performance)

I thought I was going to see a sci-fi flick but it turned out to be a teen romance flick instead. This movie is really frustrating because there is actually a good idea for a story but that good idea gets loaded with cheese and every teen romance movie cliche imaginable. The story starts off promising as a baby is born on Mars to an astronaut living on a space station. The mother dies in childbirth and the baby is raised by the other scientists on Mars. He can't leave and go to Earth because there are medical complications from his being born and living in zero gravity. So, after the intro stuff, we fast forward 16 years and meet the teenage martian. So far, this is a story that could be interesting. It goes bad from there. Very bad. He meets an Earth girl online and decides to risk his life and go to Earth to meet her (do I need to go on?). One of the laziest aspects of this story is the science of it. Even though we have people living on Mars and can travel back and forth, nothing on Earth has advanced at all. Life on Earth is just like it is today. The only thing difference is that we travel back and forth to Mars. I give this one 4 pukes. :barf::barf::barf::barf:
