We watched the new Halloween last night. I was scared of Michael Meyers like always but the movie itself I did not think was that great. Lots of scenes straight out of the original. (And a few of the sequels.) It annoyed me because I wanted to love it as much as everyone else did when it came out. I didn't want a glorified remake, I wanted a new story and a remake is what it felt like.

I still had nightmares last night though. So I guess it did the job. :D

Halloween, the original, was the first movie I can remember being terrified after seeing. My dad took me to the drive in to see it in 1978, I was six years old..lol. I saw Michael Myers in every dark corner of our trailer, outside at dark, my mind conjured him up for months. I had nightmares about him, my mom was not happy my dad took me to see the movie at all..lol. Anyway, the franchise has always drilled a hole right to some kind of subconscious fear of that character, which is why I love the franchise so much. When Rob Zombie released his version of Halloween, I was skeptical, but the first scene where I saw a 6'8 Tyler Mane playing Michael Myers, I felt like I was six years old again. He looked like my childhood version of Michael Myers, ten feet tall, bigger than life, an unstoppable presence. I always enjoy a return to the Halloween series in all its iterations. Just watching Michael Myers appear like some evil apparition on the screen always makes me smile, and somewhere in my subconscious, something always triggers the hair on the back of my neck to stand up. I hope they keep making Halloween movies till I'm old and gray......wait, oh hell, that's already happened...lol

Bad Times at the El Royale - a really great crime drama/character study. I really don't understand why this didn't make more of a splash at the box office, except perhaps it ran a wee bit long (for a theatrical release maybe). Also, poor Chris Hemsworth really can't catch a break. He really is a terrific actor (watch The Heart of the Sea), but it seems Hollywood or the audience just can't get past his good looks. This dude shouldn't have to rely on Marvel films just to get butts in the theatre.

I wanted to see this in the theater but it disappeared before I could go. I think it's available as a 4k release. I'm going to hunt for it.

It's very good. I saw it in Florida, probably very close to you, in October. It's a slow burn, but intriguing and interesting characters. Lots of familiar faces and names. Quirky.

Oh, I dunno... I thought it was pretty clever. Though I do agree about the timing.

What was clever about it? Apparently Snoke is so powerful that he can even establish a mental connection between Kylo Ren and Rey in some bizarre scheme, but he can't see coming that Kylo Ren plans to kill him?

Glass (2019); M Night Shamylan

Plot: Third movie in the unbreakable trilogy. Mr. Glass (Samuel L Jackson), The Overseer (Bruce Willis), and Kevin (James McAvoy) from the previous movies cross paths after being detained in a facility for people who believe they have superpowers.

Review: It seems the reviews of this were a bit wavery, I actually quite enjoyed it myself. Pretty good in terms of M Night movies in the past decade. It had some cool shots and a pretty good soundtrack, as well as a pretty awesome fight scene. As to be expected with M Night, is layered with plot twists. I think you won’t be disappointed if you’re a fan of the previous two, it’s a pretty solid threequel. 8/10

We watched Unbreakable this weekend in prep for Glass. At the time it came out, we had no clue it was meant to be anything but a stand alone movie. Next we want to watch Split, which I would have been more insistent about if I'd known of the link. My daughter has several friends who did watch Split and were excited to see the "sequel" Glass. I think the powers involved did a poor job of establishing the fact that this was a trilogy.

Just curious - had you seen Unbreakable before Split and did you know it was a trilogy?

I didn't know it was a trilogy until the trailers came out for Glass. Now I have to see if I can find Unbreakable.

I saw Split but not Unbreakable. I had no idea Split was related to anything else. :) I liked Split quite a lot even though I didn't know it was part 2 of a 3 part story. I'm going to have to watch Unbreakable now. It seems kind of weird to watch a trilogy 2-1-3.

I’m pretty sure Split is meant as an introduction for one of the characters
