Have not read the book. Atmospheric gets thrown around a lot in descriptions but this was very atmospheric. It was interesting but not particularly spellbinding.Have you read the book? Just wondered if it was good.
Tv ran a marathon on the first two movie this weekend.Saw John Wick: Parabellum this weekend. The plot is starting to get a bit out there but he does manage to kill the population of a small state. It also has some of the more original kills I've seen in any of the previous two John Wick movies. Keanu Reeves continues to be one of my favorite actors with his "speak softly and let your screen presence do the talking" method of acting. If you enjoyed the first two movies, this one is a nice wrap up but I think they'll mostly turn this into a franchise so not sure how good the future movies will be.
Two of the best action movies ever made, imho. I like the subtle humor in both movies and Keanu is always good in his roles.Tv ran a marathon on the first two movie this weekend.

Alien is my favourite movie, I guess I've watched it a couple of hundred times at this stage, the logic behind trying to put something in his mouth during THAT scene is to get him to bite down on something to try and control the pain. I won't go into descriptions as I'm not sure how to use the spoiler button.Saw Alien (1979) in theatres, remastered to look as crisp as it did back when it was first shown in theatres on brand new film, for its 40th anniversary.
Classic monster flick, despite the fact that the Xenomorph’s design is iconic now you can definetly see how well built-up its appearance is and that the film played with its original audiences’s expectations. Although the monster costumes and puppets are good, the intricate set design is where this film reallly shines, especially in the room with the alien queen corpse thingy, you can definitely see the connections with the ELP Brain Salad Surgery cover that the same guy also designed.
Well watching the film, I did notice what I think is a plot hole for the rest of the franchise though, maybe I’m interpreting something wrong but here’s what I noticed.
During the infamous chestburster scene, when the dude carrying the alien fetus begins to spasm on the table it looks like the alien fetus is sliding up the throat and trying to exit through the mouth, which makes sense as that would be the easiest path for a weak newborn alien to take, but the rest of the crew turn him over and start shoving random things in his mouth in an attempt to stop it? It only digs out of his chest once the mouth is blocked off because it’s kinda out of other options. Like I said, maybe this is just speculation but it really did look like it was trying to get out of his mouth. If this is true that means the fact that all the other xenomorphs across the future films, video games, and comics wouldn’t be born via chestbursting as it would not make sense for it to become an acquired trait.
If this is true, I wonder how Ridley Scott did this when the cast had no idea that the alien fetus was going to pop out his chest so he could get their natural reactions.
Also I want a cat carrier like the one Ripely puts Jones the cat in near the end of the film.
7-8/10
Ive also heard it was to stop him from swallowing his tongue.Alien is my favourite movie, I guess I've watched it a couple of hundred times at this stage, the logic behind trying to put something in his mouth during THAT scene is to get him to bite down on something to try and control the pain. Yep that too.Ive also heard it was to stop him from swallowing his tongue.
It was common practice at that time to try and put something (a wallet, belt, etc.) in a seizure patient's mouth. We know better today.Ive also heard it was to stop him from swallowing his tongue.
That’s a movie that’s been on my To Watch list for awhile, that and his version of The Fly. I don’t believe I’ve seen any of Cronenberg’s work beforeScanners
Did it *ahem* blow your mind?Scanners
"You can't be serious!" You haven't seen any Cronenberg movies? Scanners is still one of my favourite movies of all time. The Fly remake is good too. Michael Ironside is so brilliant in that movie. Have you ever seen The Thing by John Carpenter? That’s a movie that’s been on my To Watch list for awhile, that and his version of The Fly. I don’t believe I’ve seen any of Cronenberg’s work before
Of course Ive seen The Thing (1982), I’ve talked extensively about it being my favorite horror film of all time. I’ve seen a good portion of Carpenter’s films, never got around to Big Trouble in Little China or Escape from New York however."You can't be serious!" You haven't seen any Cronenberg movies?
