I
I have had the pleasure of meeting Michael Biehn at a Con, great actor and a lovely guy.Uncut Gems (2019): Wow, an actually good Adam Sandler movie. He certainly proves he's a great actor when he isn't doing half-assed comedies. Great movie, it was constantly hectic and a little hard to get into at first, but it really pays off. The last 30 minutes legitimately made me tense, not something that often happens when I watch movies, probably because I went into this almost blind. The main character is a stupid *******, but the movie does a good job at making you root for him in the end. Unfortunately my internet kinda gave up halfway through so the resolution got mutilated and I had to watch a vaguely pixelated version of the movie, not bad enough to where I couldn't tell what was going on, but enough to be annoying. I'd really recommend it if you don't mind an overabundance of yelling, cursing, and slurs.
Aliens (1986): James Cameron directs the more action-oriented adaptation to the 1979 horror classic. Although I didn't think it was as good as the original, it was still really good. The cast was pretty good and worked well together, and it had pretty good child acting. The Xenomorph Queen is an awesome feat of practical effect, and I like how she closes the gap on how the facehuggers are created in order to reproduce the Xenomorphs. Pretty good sci-fi action/horror.
Critters (1986): It was okay, I didn't expect much from it, but at the very least it was entertaining. Another 80s movie where cute, fuzzy monsters unleash havoc on a small town and kill people, as a result of the Gremlins craze (although, if I remember correctly, the crew behind this one insisted the script existed before Gremlins). The critter effects weren't bad, and they did have that perfect blend between cute and evil that they were probably achieving for. Some of the humor was decent, I liked the little subtitle conversations the critters had with each other while tearing up the house. I also thought the effect at the end where the house restores itself was kinda cool. As for criticisms, the bounty hunter plot was stupid and just felt like a plot device, and it just seemed to waste time more than anything, and they played that one original song on the soundtrack way too much. It also took way too long for the critters to start their rampage, which is bad when the movie is only 1 hour and 26 minutes long. Overall, not as bad as it could've been, and managed to be the fun little monster horror movie it probably aimed to be.
