As a constant reader I find myself surprised rarely.

Over the last few days I have been.

Feeling a bit down I picked up and old King book to ease my woes.

Firstly I found that I actually hadn't read it. Secondly I saw the dedication inside was from my ex wife! And thirdly the bookmarks in it were from a trip I took with her 8 years ago

All well and good so far.

As I got absorbed with the stories as a constant reader does, but Mute struck me. Not because of any reference to my life, just that it is maybe the best short story I've ever read. And I've read more than a few.

So I signed up to this fan thing - first time I've ever done so - just to say thank you.

Yours truely, constant reader K

When I got divorced I felt lonely and all that, but then I realised I was better off not living under the same roof of someone I ended up not liking very much. She the 'victim' game thing, making out I was the controlling one, but I didn't even bother sinking that low and I was the one that started the divorce proceeding, and she tried to get in contact with me--through our kids who know obviously where I live--and I didn't bother answering the door, another time she tried I told my son to tell your mother if she tries to get in contact with me I'm taking out an AVO on her.

Welcome. All the great writers have written great short stories. Mr. King is in this group. When you have a chance read The Man in the Black Suit. It is as good as anything by Faulkner, Hemingway or Steinbeck.
