This is the exception to the rule for me, the rule being that I don't watch reality shows (or is "Survivorman" a reality show?). But this one has me intrigued in a guilty-pleasure way. I don't want to like it, and I kinda feel like I shouldn't like it, but the premise was just fascinating, and having watched three or four of them now, I find myself seeing if I can sneak one in sometime again.

I don't much care for it when one of the team wusses out with much angst then vented to the camera. And the amount of weight loss, abject hunger, and physical deterioration also makes me think that people should not be subjected to this, not even willingly. But I do find myself wondering, "What would I take? How would I handle this?"

I've watched bits and pieces of a couple episodes. The participants have many more survival skills than I do. A couple scenes that come to mind are the longs nights with infinite mosquitoes. That would be enough to make me quit after less than five minutes.

I have no idea what this show is...?

Executive summary:

Usually, one man and one woman, never having met before, are dropped off at a place for 21 days. They're allowed nothing, including clothes, except one item that they can bring with them (usually a machete/knife, or a pan, or a flint, something like that). They have handheld cameras, and there's a camera crew who's supposed to not interfere except for a medical emergency.

So they have to make their own food-gathering devices, shelter, water collection, body coverings, insect protection, whatever. As the 21st day closes in, they have to make their way to the extraction point, and sometimes that's no picnic at all, particularly since they're usually starving and barefoot.

Oh, yeah... the naughty bits are digi-blurred for the sensitivities of the audience, of course.

Yeah, if it were me, I'd be covered in a layer of mud the whole time.

I find myself watching this show as well. I don't watch reality show either but something about this one. Did you see the one with the whiner who ate the parrot head? Then wondered why she got sick.

I did not see that one. I saw the one where the capable guy who was so hungry ate some mushroom and paid for it. That one was actually pretty good. The woman had problems early on, and he carried them through. Then later on, he had problems, and she carried them through. In fact, I think that was my favorite just because the whining factor was so low.

I see these folks trying to fish and think, why don't you do a weave net with leaves or something and just drag an area? Or if you can do a basket weave, make the no-escape type of net for the fish? Or if I were that hungry, I'd be catching those bugs and making a stew. Making tea out of grasses. Digging a pit with pointed sticks to catch prey. I mean, whatever.

Have seen several, and just wondering..why can't they get Kate Upton to star in an episode, rather than people we really would rather not see nekkid? Promise,if you put Kate on there, ratings will go through the roof..

I suspect that people who are body-conscious ain't gonna volunteer for this gig. I do remember one fairly attractive lady, and she was just useless. Yeah, if you're watching this to see hot naked bodies on display, you're due for disappointment.
