I remember many years ago, when Wal-mart was just a baby, they had signs posted on their doors about a week before Thanksgiving. I don't recall the exact wording, but they basically said that Thanksgiving is a day for families to be together, and they would be closed so that their employees could be with their families. I remember thinking "that's awesome!".....

Believe me, I'd love to shop on Thanksgiving. I have the whole day off to do nothing. It's the perfect time to shop. But I refuse to do it. I worked in retail for a long, long time and I think it's disgusting how little the retail worker's life is valued. People need family time. I wish everyone would make a stand and boycott Thanksgiving shopping.

Consider shopping on Thanksgiving boycotted here! I'm going to talk to my friends and family about it, see if I can get a few of them on board too.

When I worked in Healthcare I worked the holidays voluntarily so people with kids could stay home. I understand that some things cannot stop for the holidays but I do not need to buy a 10 for a dollar pack of socks on Thanksgiving day. No sir.
I might stop at the Walmart on Thanksgiving and bring the workers some candy or something.

When I was a kid, stores were closed on Thanksgiving day. In the last few years, I've watched as more and more retail stores are staying open.
This year, Belk will open at 8:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving.....I get to work 7:30 till midnight. While I think it's great that I will get double the hourly rate for working on the holiday, I'm more than a little pissed off at the sheer greed of most of our stores.

I used to work at Belk! I'm so glad I don't anymore. I remember when I worked there we were open super late on Christmas Eve. And there was virtually no one in the store and the people who were there were really rude. And a few years ago I worked the night before Thanksgiving and there were two women who were there until 11pm and we had closed at 10. They were also incredibly rude. I think it's a trend.

No shopping on Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday or the whole darn weekend for me! I refuse to take part in any of that madness.

I get to go home this year for Thanksgiving, and I plan on having a few beers with my Dad while watching football and seeing my grandparents and Mom and all the rest of my family. Soaking up the love, yep that's what I'm gonna do.
