I like your thinking! Plus, it's summer — I wouldn't want to work then too...Oh right, I still have to work.Let's take a look at the authors side of a book tour-- it is a grind! Most are one city/ state per day. Include in that travel, airports, car rides, waking up early, hotel beds, hotel / restaurant food. Being away from family and companions. And Most are still writing while on tour.
Tours are "extra" gifts to the constant readers. The book is the actual gift. Authors need down time.
SK is coming off of a very grinding book tour from last year. Yes, we all want to "see", "meet", shake his hand, have a pic taken with him. But we also want that delightful to hold in your hands book. Sometimes we have to give a little of our desires/ wants in order to have those delightful books in hand.
Be patient-- all good things come to those who wait.
