I just started reading this book and I swear I've never read it before but the first few chapters seem so familiar. The accident with the crane, the dying dog. Is this a call back to an earlier book?

Maybe you read an excerpt before the book was released.

Maybe I did and just can't remember. I thought it was perhaps a short story that was later rewritten and incorporated into a full novel. Maybe I'm just going crazy :O_O:

It may be just as blunthead said. Some of my SK books have the first chapters of soon to be released books. I may end up getting the actual book a long time after that, so I may not remember the first time I read those chapters.

It's definitely a sneak preview put in at the end of another book. I had the same confusion until I found the exerpt.

    GNTLGNT The idiot is IN

...it was originally published as a story in the magazine Tin House, back in '06 I think...called Memory....with significant revision it became the first chapter of DK.....

We may have published it here, too. I remember reading it. And I know I don't get Tin House magazine. Did EW publish it as a DK teaser, maybe?

Topic derailing imminent (although flowing naturally from what has been said before).

How are the stories chosen to be included in compilations like "Full Dark, No Stars" and the like?

I imagine not all of Mr. King's short stories and novellas have been compiled. I really wish they could all be published in book format, since I guess it is very difficult to get all of the magazine-published stories. :concern:
