Haven't been here much lately. Earlier today while driving, I saw three license plates almost in a row - first one started with the letters RHIA and I immediately thought of Rhea of the Coos and thought about the SKMB and all of the people I care about here. Next two plates I noticed ended in AKE and I thought about Oy and then thought about this board yet again.

A few minutes later, I heard on the radio that Prince had passed away. My first thought was of kingricefan and how devastated he must be. I adore you, KRF and am so heartbroken for the loss you are experiencing. I know how much his music means to you and has meant to you for a very long time. I'm holding you close to my heart. I also pray for Prince's friends and family. Way too much loss - my heart is extremely heavy for all who are suffering.
Morgan, thank you so much for this post! Thank you for thinking of me and remembering how much Prince means to me. His music changed my life as well as countless others. I am still in shock. I have shed tears, copious tears. There will be more of them in the days to come, once it really sinks in that he is truly not among us. Yes, we have his music, it will last forever, but it's not the same now. I'm tired of all of this death. Death is selfish and cruel. But, life must go on, right. Thank you again my friend.

Not half! He was so good he make guitars disappear. Check out this solo from while my guitar gently weeps from the rock n roll Hall of Fame, featuring George Harrison's son and Tom petty amongst others, and if you can, tell me where his guitar went.

Read a very nice quote from Eric Clapton today. An interviewer asked him how it felt to be the greatest guitar player alive, and his reply was "How should I know, you'll have to ask Prince."

Switched the TV news on last night just as this was breaking, and only caught the very back end of the report with his picture and the presenter saying the words "...has been found dead in his home".
As has been said, it was another Bowie moment, news so unexpected that it doesn't quite sink in for a moment or two.

I'll admit that I wasn't his biggest fan (though at least one of my cousins will be in absolute bits). However, he was impossible not to admire. His work ethic was legendary, and he had an undoubted influence on the musical world. Even when he wasn't releasing stuff himself he was writing for others. His output was such that he was, in effect, an industry unto himself, and how could anyone not admire that?

2016 really has been the worst so far.

I don't like the way the press are picking over this like the vultures they are. If he had addiction problems then this must be even more devastating for his family. I know he was a very, very private person so I can't stand all this speculation and judgement. Who are they to judge? I don't care if it was an OD.. He was a real person, with real family and friends, who are grieving. Ugh sorry that's my tuppence worth.... I wish the GrimReaper would put his bloody Scythe down and give it a rest.

I saw him live at North Sea Jazz a couple of years ago during a special night concert - it was a regular length concert, but it started at two in the morning. He played a lot of covers from other artists - Jimi Hendrix, James Brown etc. - but also Purple Rain and ended with Kiss. While it was great to see him, it wasn't as good as his prime in the eighties. He looked very young - I was standing close to the stage and was able to see him well.
He has this reputation of being a recluse and shy - but there are few other artists who have worked with and produced and written for so many other artists. Also, he made constantly contact with the public, on every song basically. I think he may have been initially shy and quiet (he once fell completely silent during a tv interview), but I think he turned that more or less into an image through his role in Purple Rain and by not giving many interviews. A sort of way to build a sense of mystery around himself and try to let the music speak for itself. But seeing him live he seemed far more open than you would expect.

I really hope they will release what's left in the Paisley Park vault - according to his engineers there must still be great songs he never put out. Hit n Run Phase 2 is coming out here next week - just as with Bowie he died right before a new record came out. I was thinking about that all last week - the excitement for a new record and then the shock of his death.

We seem to have a celebrity death fetish in society. CNN is running headlines like "Prince autopsy underway." Ghoulish. If Anderson Cooper ever shows up in your neighborhood you will know it has hit the fan. That guy is like the grim reaper.

They'll all over the place, articles about "Prince's many loves," "Prince's private life," and "Prince's addictions." I can't even look.
As far as the addiction rumors go, I remain unconvinced. He wouldn't even put chemicals in his hair anymore because of his religion, which forbids foreign substances in the body - including blood transfusions. I don't know if I buy him putting chemicals in his body.

This is how you remember somebody.

The Eiffel Tower bathed in a purple glow brought fresh tears to my eyes. Prince loved Paris and the Parisians loved him back in full force.
