Don't know if you remember but a while ago, I think it was discussing the idea of Steve as a "Genre Writer", you said something about that if you had a dollar for everytime someone said to you that they disliked Steve's work that you would be rich, I'm paraphrasing but it is something like that. I just found that weird, do people actually say to you, when you mention that you work for Stephen King, "man, I really don't like that guy." It just seems weird and disrespectful, if it was me and I did not like Steve (which I of course do) then I wouldn't say anything like that. Not so much a question, more of a statement I guess.

TWELVE COMMANDMENTS FOR SENIORS
#1 - Talk to yourself. There are times you need expert advice.
#2 - “In Style” are the clothes that still fit.
#3 - You don't need anger management. You need people to stop pissing you off.
#4 - Your people skills are just fine. It's your tolerance for idiots that needs work.
#5 - The biggest lie you tell yourself is, “I don't need to write that down. I'll remember it.”
#6 - “On time” is when you get there.
#7 - Even duct tape can't fix stupid - but it sure does muffle the sound.
#8 - It would be wonderful if we could put ourselves in the dryer for ten minutes, then come out wrinkle- free and three sizes smaller?
#9 - Lately, you've noticed people your age are so much older than you.
#10 - Growing old should have taken longer.
#11 - Aging has slowed you down, but it hasn't shut you up.
#12 - You still haven't learned to act your age and hope you never will.
. . . And one more:
“One for the road” means peeing before you leave the house.
....outstanding!!.....

The ones who say they don't like his work have been mostly in letters sent to the office or posts on the Message Board. What I hear from people in person is that they don't like his "stuff" meaning they don't like horror genre and have never actually read any of his work. He's been stereotyped as a horror writer so many people don't know that he writes much more than that. It would be more accurate to say he's a writer who has written in many genres. That's how I usually respond to them and admit that horror isn't what I would gravitate to but I enjoy his books because he creates characters who are believable and who you either love or hate because of it. When you've reached the end of the book, you feel like you've lost a connection to real people. There are still people who don't realize he's written the books that movies like Shawshank and The Green Mile were adapted from but loved the movies.

I'm not joking that I was in an English class once and these girls were talking about thier favourite movies, they listed Green Mile, Shawshank. And I bet they had no idea who wrote the books they were based on. :)

I can understand casual fans of the movie not knowing it was based on a short story, more because the original story isn’t as widely known as The Shining, IT, or Pet Sematary.

Great comment on an interview video.

"I'm proud to say that I grew up down the road from Stephen King (my parents still live there) and he helped coach my basketball team at the local YMCA when I was a kid many years ago. He also bought the radio station that my dad used to work for. He is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet and he and his wife have done so much for our community over the years. They are extremely generous people. My mom went to college with him at the University of Maine and knew him well. So many people freak out when I tell them I'm from Bangor and say something like, "OMG! Do you know Stephen King?!" Here, we don't think of him as this huge celebrity. He's just part of our community and we're all so used to seeing him around town. To us Bangor natives, he's just Steve from West Broadway. :)"
