Went to the first stop of this tour last night and it was great. I got to Brooklyn around 4:30 after my 3.5 hour mini road trip and found that the neighborhood wasn't as bad as some others I have visited over the years in NY. I got great street parking almost directly in front of venue, how this happened I do not know because at this point there had to be at least 250 people lined up already.
I got my place in line and waited like everyone else. The people at the front of the line had blankets and chairs as if they had been there from early morning or possibly overnight, not sure. But I have to say, in this instance no so much worth the wait, as the lady in front did get front row, but I arrived 4:30 and got fifth row isle with great view of the Kings.
The Church was an absolute marvel of architecture, but of course with no AC, so it was very hot and stuffy inside. I didnt mind to much, but it was clearly bothering some of the other attendees.
After we all got herded into the place, there was a brief introduction by Emma Straub that was nice and didn't take to long. Then Owen and Stephen entered to much applause and sat down. They gave a quick run down on how the event was going to go, they both were going to read passages from the book, then they ask each other questions and after that took the pre-submitted questions from the audience.
Having now seen Stephen a number of times both signings and speaking events, some of the stories get repeated, but not this time. I really enjoyed this event with Owen there because it was a whole new dynamic and hearing him refer to Stephen as "Dad" for some reason was just cool to me and the childhood moments they shared was genuine and enjoyable to hear about.
I do ecpect the GI Joe aftermarket sales of "Crystal Ball" to increase after this tour as they both talk about that as their first collaboration. lol.
The event was just short of an hour but felt like it flew by to me. Peter Straub was in attendance and I regretted not taking a copy of The Talisman with me for a possible autograph, he looked approachable.
The event ended promplty at 8 and everyone piled out to get their books hoping for a signature. I got two signed books out of four. I was certainly happy about this.
I will upload some pictures on this thread after lunch.

I went to the Hudson Valley event last night. Got two signed copies. Not much news to report. Owen and SK read from the new book and discussed the writing process. It was brutally hot there yesterday. The Fisher Center looks great but was not designed for a big crowd. Not much lobby space. The book distribution process left something to be desired when they set up outside the exit doors and caused quite a jam up of people after the event but otherwise uneventful. King wore a Shirley Jackson t-shirt. He did look tired and frail to me. Hopefully the tour doesn't wear him out.

Well he is 70. But hopefully he is not ill. I imagine they could take a lot out of him. He needs to slow down I think.

i'm glad that folks are enjoying their tour stops, and i can't wait for mine. one thing bugging me though, is people who have already put signed books on ebay for 3-400 dollars. i find that to be rather opportunistic of them, to say the least. so many people would have loved to have gone to one of these and have a chance at one of those, and that immediate price jack up . . . smh.

Honestly, I'm more bothered by the ticket scalpers snatching up all the tickets and reselling them at 10 times the ticket price but this does sting too. Fingers crossed that either Mr. Blue or I get a signed book! I plan to regift all of my extra unsigned copies.

I suppose it depends. A lot of fans don't have the time and means to attend. Buying a signed copy off ebay is the only way to ever get one. And as someone who has attended several, I can say it is sometimes a whole lot cheaper to buy a copy at that price than buy a ticket, take time off from work, drive to the event, spend the night at hotel etc. Random distribution also means that a lot of folks at these events who might care less end up with signed copies they are willing to sell. So long as the signed books have a value they will be sold by someone.
