This guy is delusional, he did the event to sell books? Really? You think Stephen King needs to do events to sell books? Why don't you try thinking about that. Why do people have to meet their heroes? And the way he talks he doesn't sound like much of a fan. Can you not just take pride in his work and not have to meet him or go to his talk? Another thing, if you have the means to fly from abroad to a Stephen King event then you need your head checked. I love King, don't get me wrong, I wouldn't spend that kind of money to go to a talk, I'd much rather spend it on getting his catalogue, or maybe a new Straub? That's just me though. .

Everyone pays the price of the book for their tickets plus a little more to help the bookstore cover the cost for renting the off-site location for the event. Every person gets a book and it was made clear that everyone would get a book but not everyone was guaranteed to get a signed copy unless they had purchased the deluxe ticket.

At every book event that Stephen has done for many years now, he has agreed to pre-sign 400 copies regardless of how many seats the venue holds. That's as many books as he is physically comfortable signing.

i thought that you calculated it depending on the number of tickets sold so it was always like one in 7 got a book. That is good info

This has been beat to death on another forum but the most disappointing aspect of how it was handled is that some of us did purchase deluxe tickets after spending hours online only to be told days later that they had oversold the event and our tickets were no longer valid. And then I learned that some folks were able to get on and buy tickets prior to the noon opening. I can understand a smaller, independent bookstore perhaps being overwhelmed, even if they were told better. I can't understand, however, how a modern technology allows for overselling the event and taking money from folks for tickets. Oh well. Saved me hours of driving into horrible Boston traffic/weather and a few thousand dollars in hotel and food. I compensated by the going to the event where Danny Lloyd and the Grady Twins signed my CD copy of The Shining. Oddly enough, even that horror con was mismanaged and sold out. So I had to make a second trip the following day. There must be an enormous amount of disposable income in this country with so many folks able to spend so much time and cash on these kinds of things. Not cheap. Lloyd was charging $50 per autograph. And then another $30 for a photo.

I was willing to spend the $60 for a deluxe ticket and 2 autographed books living in MA already. Alas it was not meant to be. Glad I got to see Joe Hill in NH the next day for travel costs.

It's been 400 books regardless of seating capacity for quite a while and those books are mixed in with the unsigned ones so that no one, including store staff, knows whether the book being handed out is signed or not.

I think I can convince our local book store to hold some Running Man type of event for signed Steven King books. We have lots of hungry bears and coyotes in these here parts. He should consider it next time.. and he’d only need to sign a dozen books, or so.

“Winners of the round one signed books… Whitman, Price, and Haddad!”

It's showtime! :)

Sour, meet grapes.

Stephen King does not owe you anything. Not a thing. Be happy you got to see him speak.

And if you just can't savor that, don't ever buy a ticket to another event and free up that seat for someone who truly appreciates the experience because you clearly are so unhappy with how he chooses to conduct HIS business. The customer isn't always right, especially when it comes to controlling human beings.

Your attitude, in my book, is a poor way to treat an author.

excatley. I live up in western Canada and i know for a fact i will probably never get to see Stephen king speak, as i cant gaurenttee he will come to Canada and if he does it will be in tronto. i live accross the country from tronto, and the cost it will cost me to travel over their, hotel plus food etc will not likely happen. I may however meet joe hill nay bee

Kind of sorry I started the thread now. My sole purpose was to expose the poor planning on the part of the bookstore, not anything to do with SK or JH. They were warned about servers going down and believed their server company over the King experts. They scheduled both deluxe and regular ticket purchases at the same time eliminating a chance for those who focused on one type of ticket (should have been done over 2 days). They "oversold" the event and reneged on tickets already bought and paid for. The employees were dismissive and rude to fans and readers questioning their incompetence. I saw Joe Hill on 10/11 in New Hampshire at Barns and Noble and got a personalized signed copy of Full Throttle...no ticket required. If they Indy bookstores cant handle events like this, they shouldn't do them.

its not your fault.. but if it makes you fell better i needed the laugh

As you have let yours through as well in earlier posts. Again, funny the posts on the event and the Youtube video turned off comments. Gee, what a shocker. That I have to explain to you my point of view on this only demonstrates your innate lack of empathy for anyone but yourself. I've worked in the TV and Entertainment industry for years and unfortunately, have come across far too many such as you. Out of touch with reality and how anyone but yourself feels. Of course you don't recognize it, but I'm sure I'm not the first who's brought it to your attention and that you ignored. It's people like you that is the sole reason I didn't further pursuem my career in that field, as sadly they are the norm. Out of touch, and self-agrandizing

i really think you are not a fan of kings at all and just whanted to flip the signed book. glad you did not get a copy as well.

This was a good thread. This guy needs a nap. or to go away far far away.... king can go, take molly and tabby, and barricade himself in his library in his house in bangor and just live like a hobbit.. people like this is annoying. i get this a few times with comic con fans....
